    Speech to the Frankfurt Assembly
    This event was where Prussia had the upper hand because at this point it was between Austria and Prussia. In this speech Johann Gustav Droysen lists the positives and negatives of each. He says that Prussia has the power and Austria is weak. He says that Prussia will "merge with Germany".

    This is when Friedrich Wilhelm IV rejected the crown. His reasons were that the Assembly did not have the right to do that without consent of the German governments. His second reason was it was offered under a condition that he would accept a constitution which could not be "reconciled with the rights of the German States".

    In this letter it is brought to our attention that Germany is too small for Austira and Prussia and it is said that they will both "plough the same disputed acre". It is then said that they will have to fight, it is unavoidable.

    The war of 1866 happened because power needed to be distinguished. The war did not happen because the existence of Prussia was threatened or by the public. Austria did not lose any land but they left western German provinces unprotected. Prussia then felt strong enough to "assume the leadership of the German races".

    They didn't wound Austria too severly becuase they didn't want them to seek revenge. If they had wounded Austria severly it would become an ally of France and any other enemy.

    The German princess and the free cities called upon King Wilhelm to assume the crown of Emperor. They said they would accept the imperial title which was protecting the independence of Germany.
