• Decembrist Revolt

    -When Tsar Alexander I died, he left his sucession and it was thought that Tsar Nicholas had forged his will so he would have the throne. This upsetted military leaders.
    -The rebels wanted a new Russian government of a free state and a constitution.
    -The rebellion was unsuccessful against the Tsars.
  • Emancipation of the Serfs

    -It took place in 1861
    -It was one of Alexander II’s many reforms
    -It abolished serfs in all of Russia
    -Made Serfs happy, and made Alexander II more popular.
  • Bloody Sunday

    -Bloody Sunday took place on January 22, 1945
    -Peace demonstrators in St. Petersburg were shot and killed
    -This made the Tsarist regime very unpopular in Russia
    -This was the beginning of the end of the Czars, and the events on Bloody Sunday would spur the revolution of 1905

    Rasputin was shot, stabbed, hit with pipes, and still survived
    -He escaped, jumped out of a window, but fell into a river
    -When his body was washed up, it was discovered that he drowned, and did not die from the other injuries

    -The people rioted later and eventually overthrew him
  • Bolshevik Revolution

    Is also called the October Revolution
    -Took place to try and reform the current government of Russia -Was violent, and there was rioting and protesting, and armed forces in Petrograd
  • Murder of the Romanovs

    The Romanov family was murdered at Ekateringburg on July 17th, 1918.
    After his abdication in 1917, Nicholas and his family were put under house arrest
    The family was eventually killed by anti government revolutionaries

    -This Treaty was signed at the end of World War I
    -Limited the strength of the axis powers, and imposed strict sanctions
    -Was eventually the cause of World War II

    Lenin was the leader of the Communist Revolution
    -When he died, Stalin took power
    -Stalin wanted to preserce Lenin's body as a national monument
