    Fredonian Rebellion

    1826, Haden Edwards tried to make ¨ old settlers ¨ pay fees for land. Mexican government revoked the contract. The Declared Republic of Fredonia short-lived but started Mexican concern of Anglos in Texas rebelling.

    Mier y Teran Report

    1829 Gen Mier y Teran sent to inspect Anglo settlements in Texas. Recommends:
    1. send more troops to Texas.
    2. encourage more Mexican and European settlers in Texas.
    3. Strengthen trade between Texas and Mexico,

    1. Outlawed immigration from the U.S.
    2. Encourage Mexican and European colonists.
    3. Tax goods from the U.S.
    4. New forts and more soldiers,
    5. No Americans living near the Texas/U.S. border
    6. No more slavery Law mostly impacted Americans living in Texas.

    Events at Anahuac and turtle Bayou

    1832 Brad arrests Travis for protesting the soldiers and taxes and Bradburns treatment. When other Texans come to his aid they end up writing the Turtle Bayou Resolutions to explain why attacked Anahuac and pledge loyalty to Santa Anna.

    The election of Santa Anna

    1832 Texans supported Santa Anna because they believed he would support the Constitution of 1824.

    The conventions of 1832 and 1833

    Texans call a meeting to create a list of changes they want. SFA is named the president of the meeting. All settlements represented except San Antonio. The most important change they want is to be a separate state. Never sent because they wanted to support of the Tejanos. Another meeting in 1833 Sam Houston named president of meeting. Tejanos agree to the list of demands and SFA takes a list to Mexico city.

    The arrest of Stephen F Austin

    1834 After waiting months to meet with Santa Anna SFA sends a letter to Texas telling them to start organizing a state government. Santa Anna finally meets with SFA and he agrees to some demands but not to be own state. He heads home but is arrested after his letter was intercepted. They believe he was trying to go against the government. When he returns home he says they have no choice but to fight because Santa Anna had become a dictator.

    1835 Cos is sent to Texas with more troops. Travis is arrested for protesting this. A meeting is called to discuss war.
