Writing was invented in Mesopotamia, allowing for the creation of record keeping. Cuneiform was a writing system that utilized symbols to represent ideas or words. Not only was this important for the time, as it allowed for financial records and stories to be kept, but now serves as a source where we can learn about Mesopotamians. -
The Old Kingdom of Egypt officially collapsed. There are many theories of what led to this collapse, but the main two being that they had no stable leadership. After previous leaders no longer led, Egypt experienced bouts of instability. Along with this, doughts did not help them. Many aspects of Egypt were struggling during this time. -
Hammurabi's Laws are introduced to society. This showed the development of government and organization of society. Hammurabi's Laws are the first written source of rules and laws within a society. -
Statars (invented by the Lydians) were invented. This allowed for the bartering system to disappear and made taxation easier. Currency allowed the government more power within the future. -
With the beginning of the Dark Ages, farming improved. This made it easier to be a peasant as they had enough resources to make food for more than just themselves. They could help fuel the economy and provide for their family with the resources they held. This allowed the population around the world to grow. -
The Dark Ages overtook Europe. During the Dark Ages, the feudal system was in place. Europe was run by a king, who was overpowered by the Pope. During this time, the Pope was at the top of the chain in regards to power. He had the most amount of power and could kick the king out of power. -
Cathedral schools were run by the cathedral clergy. This gave the church power over the education system. Giving them power over the educational system allowed them to influence the future generation with religious morals and values. They did preach a similar view with the significance of language, mathematics, and science. -
The Black Death overtook Europe. This pandemic would forever change the way Europeans viewed nearly everything. In religious means, the Europeans began to place value on other things instead. Rather than devoting their lives to religion, they took pride in themselves as individuals. -
The Hundred Years War began in 1337. It was between Europe and France. The kingdoms were so intertwined, they struggled to find boundaries with each other. This war separated the two and helped to warn against such intertwine of separate nations within the future. -
The last Muslim kingdom fell in 1492. Since the kingdom fell, it allowed other religions to take more power. Islamic power was a huge rival to Christians. Since the Islamic power was gone, other religions could take over the land, power, and people. -
King Henry VIII issued Acts of Supremacy and Succession in 1534. This act required the king to be the head of the church. As King Henry VIII held beliefs that conflicted with the church's, this gave him immense power to change things. This was similar to separation of church and state. -
Paul III passes approval for the Holy Office. The Holy Office was a part of the government that specialized in overseeing areas where the Catholic Church had control. The office consolidated the power the government had over the church, whilst also combining them.
