Events that led to WW1

  • Franco-Prussian War

    War between France and Prussia. Prussia was the future German Empire. This war lasted from 1870 to 1871.
  • Wilhelm

    The accession of Wilhelm the second to the German throne in 1888. The German foreign policy. During this time, Wilhelm the second helped create an alliance between Russia and France.
  • Japanese/Russo War

    This rivalry reached its height with the Russo/Japanese War. The Russians lost against the Japanese terribly. This took took place from 1904-1905.
  • Germany established

    The strength of naval power convinced Great Britain that Germany was establishing itself as a strong force. To make sure they still matched up with the German Empire, the British created an alliance with France. This took place in 1907.
  • Annexation

    In 1908, Austria-Hungary annexed Bosnia. That was formally an integral part of the Ottoman Empire. All of the annexations throughout all this caused bitterness in Serbia in 1914.
  • Moroccan

    The moroccan crises. The tangler crisis(1905-1906) Agadir crisis(1911) This all led to the European powers on the brink of war.
  • Turkish War

    The Turkish-Italo War took place between 1911 and 1912. It actually did not cause any major threat to Europe’s peace. The Turkish defeat revealed the weakness of the Ottoman Army and The Ottoman Empire.
  • Ottoman Empire

    In 1912, Serbia, Greece, and Bulgaria formed the Balkan League. This was a so called military alliance battling against the Ottoman Empire. It took some time, but the Balkan League stripped the Ottoman Empire of its possessions and divided the territory they claimed among each other.
  • Archduke

    On the day of June 28, 1914, a group of men carried out the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. They also assassinated Archduke’s wife along with him. This was probably the most stellar moment which finally sparked World War I.
  • The start of a War

    On July 23, Austria-Hungary presented an ultimatum to Serbia. This whole incident was triggered by the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand and his wife. The Austro-Hungarian troops invaded Serbia and started the polarizing World War I
