Events of Historical Significance in My Life

  • Birth

I was born in a hospital in Richmond Hill, Canada. I was given the name Ariba Afaq and am the youngest out of three children. My parents are Asia and Muhammad Afaq.
  • Kindergarten

    Kindergarten
My dad drove me and my sister to Derrydown PS and was really scared to the point where I started crying. I was used to staying with my parents everywhere and didn’t want to leave them. My sister had left to go to her class and I was left with my dad. When it was time to go to my class, I started feeling sick and had to throw up. After that, I went home for the rest of the day.
  • Grandfather's Death

My grandfather was my best friend and everybody loved him. He helped shape my values and I loved him for that. There is not anything I can say to describe him because he was nothing less than perfect. The day when I was signed out of school during the third grade was certainly one of the worst days of my life.
  • Visiting Pakistan

The first time I ever went to Pakistan was when I was a baby so going there at an older age had me really excited. Unfortunately, my grandmother passed away during my time there and it had a giant impact on me because she was one of the people who helped shape my current beliefs. Other than that, the three months I spent in the country helped me realize the differences between Canada and Pakistan and educated me a lot about my culture. I am glad to be both Canadian and Pakistani.
  • Middle School

Middle school helped me grow. I learned to adapt to work given and grew as a person. When I started middle school, I was careless and immature but am now a better person. Teachers and experiences throughout the three years helped me.
  • Arkham Knight

People have different ways of relieving stress and mine is to play video games. Arkham Knight was a game I would play seven hours a day and completely loved. It helped gaming become a hobby of mine and I have met people while playing on my PS4 that I am glad to call my friends.
  • Writing a Book

    Writing a Book
I remember sitting in class with my best friend during eighth grade and asking "Hey, what if I wrote a book?" and her responding with “Never thought of a greater idea.” I loved the media: books, movies, TV shows. But sometimes, the media does a horrible job of portraying reality. So, I decided to write a book and publish it on Wattpad.
  • Achievements During Grade Eight Graduation

    Achievements During Grade Eight Graduation
Middle school was the worst three years of my life and I am so happy that my last days ended of greatly. The graduation of Elia Middle School students was held at the Canadian Jamaican Centre. My mother and my sister accompanied me to the ceremony. No one other than the children in my family have won awards from my mother’s side of my family. My brother and sister have both won their fair share of awards whereas I have never won any.
  • High School

Starting high school was one of the most life-changing things to happen to me. It is certainly no joke and helps prepare students for the future. Starting high school caused me to realize that we are not going to be kids forever and all of our choices throughout these four years will greatly affect us in the future.
  • Summer School Wake-Up Call

I chose to take Civics and Careers during summer school because I wanted to know what to do with my future as fast as possible. The course truly helped me understand and develop a more responsibility for what goes on in the world. It also helped me set my priorities straight for what I want to do when I am older and how to achieve that. Taking this course early certainly caused me to focus myself on my school work.
