  • The Great Northern War

    The Great Northern War
    This war started in 1700 and ended in 1721. It was fought between Charles XII and Peter The Great. The war had a number of phases it went through. the war started over a coalition that the Czar of Russia wanted which contested the supremacy of the Swedish Empire. In the end Russia won the war because Charles XII died.
  • The Decembrist Revolt

    The Decembrist Revolt
    Russian army officers lead 3,000 soliders to protest against Czar Nicholas I.These Army officers started the revolt because the felt threatend by the Czar's conservative veiws. The Czar was too powerful for them to defeat. The Czar's army defeated the protesters, and Czar Nicholas I put new rules and regulations on the people's freedom.

    Czar Alexander II Emancipates the Serfs
    On March 3, 1861 Alexander II freed the serfs. When the serfs got out they wanted land, but Czar raised the price of land. The serfs got really angry. This caused more problems for Russia. The angry serfs started a protest for land.

    In St. Petersburg Alexander II was in his carriage on his way to a military meet when a young man had a white package wrapped in a handkerchief. His name was Nikolai Rysakov. Nikolai threw the package, which had a bomb inside, under the horses and it expoloded. which killed the Czar.

    The Russo-Japanese war started when the empires of Japan and Russia both wanted the chunks of land of Manchuria and Korea. Both empires wanted the land to expand their empires. The war was a huge suprise for the people. Most of the people put their money on Russia's side becuase they had the most of an advantage. They had a huge army and the bigest empire, but Japan still defeated them and won the war. Russia lost the war because the train they took to restore supplies too to long to get there.

    The 1905 Russian Revolution was a wave of mass political and social unrest that spread throughout the Russian Empire. It was full of problems like peasant unrest, Military problems, and strikes.
    It all started when a strike broke out at a factory and grew fast. It grew to about 80,000 people.
  • Bloody Sunday

    Bloody Sunday
    Father Gapon led 200,000 workers to the winter palace in St. Petersburg to protest. When they arrive the Czar took it as a threat and had his army attack the workers. The workers were not trying to be threatening and wanted a peaceful protest for better working conditions. The Czar's army killed 100 people and wounded around 3000 people.

    In World War 1 Russia was an allie. On July 28th the Russian empire attacked Germany. Without the war Russia was pretty succsessful in defeating the centeral powers. In March 1917 the russain empire collapsed and they left the war.

    The March Revolution
    The revolution started when workers wanted a 50% wage increase. The factory's reponse was kicking 30,000 workers out of their work, and causing a huge protest of workers. Czar Nicholas II was informed and wanted it to end soon. As the army tried to do what Nicholas wanted them to do, some people ended up getting killed and made the strike worse. The soliders could not handle that they were killing their own people and joined the strikers.In the end Nicholas could not take it no longer.

    Czar Nicholas II abdicates the Russian throne
    His first reason of abdicating himself was for his sick son Alexi. The second reason was for problems in Russia, and the people did not like him as much anymore. He thought it would make the people happier and so he left the throne. Some people were still unhappy and killed him and his family.
