    The Great Northern War was fought between Sweden's Charles XII and a lead by Peter the Great. By the end of the war, though the Great Northen War started in 1700, the causes of it had been fermenting throughout the 1690's. An anti- Swedish coalition was created from 1697 to 1699. It included Russia and Demark.

    Russian Army officers led about 3,000 soliders in a protest against Nicholas I's assumption of the throne after his elder brother Constantine removed himself from the line of succession. Because these events occured in December, the rebels were called Decembrist.

    Czar Alexander spoke before the gentry of Moscow and asked if they considered emancipation of the Serfs. Adding to that he said that it would be better to begin to abolish serfdom from above than waiting for a rising from below.

    The Revolution of 1905 was an uprising of the people of Russia calling for a change in their government. It was started by anxious troops opening fire on peaceful marchers in St. Petersburg. This all happened on January 9, 1905 which has since been called "Bloody Sunday."

    Czar Nicholas II was forced to abdicate the throne by the Petrograd Insurgents. Russia believed that Nicholas II lacked the qualities of a leader. Many of the people that were poor and hungry blamed him. The turmoil of the country was on his shoulders.
