    The Great Northern War
    The Great Northern war was having to do with Sweaden and Russia. Before, Sweaden controled the Baltic sea. So, when Russia wanted to trade with other countries, Sweaden would have a say in that. Peter the Great and Charles Xll fought and Peter the Great won. Russia won the Baltic sea powers.
  • The Decembrist Revolt

    The Decembrist Revolt
    When Nicholas I's brother was killed, he went to the trrone right away because he thought he would be the next to get Czar. Officers of Russia then led a protest against Nicholas I with many soliders, called Decembrists. After, Nicholas I stepped down from czar. This all took place in Saint Petersburg.

    Czar Alexander II Emancipates the Serfs
    When Czar Alexander II emancipated the serfs, they were set free. They were emancipated because they had harsh lives. They had bad treatment, were raped, tortured, and forced to be in the weak army of Russia. It sounds great that they were set free, but they had no money and could have land, but had to pay for it. The serfs didn't have the best life out there, even though they were emancipated.

    The Assassination of Alexander II
    While Alexander II was in Saint Petersburg, on the streets, he was killed. A person from "People's Will" group threw a bomb at the czar. They tried to kill the czar many, many other times. Now, why would they want to kill him? Well, because they were planning to overthrow Russias czarist autocracy. The "People's Will" group was all about killing and terrists.

    For trading and exporting, everyone wanted a warm water port. The Russians were lucky enough to have a port on the Pacific Ocean from China. The Japanese were not happy about that and attacked the port. They deated the Russians and won the port for navy and trading.
  • Bloody Sunday

    This day started out with peaceful, unarmed protesters. This protest was led by Father Gapon to get a petition for Nicholas II. First, the army put warnings out there. Then, the army fired bullets at people. 96 people died that day and 333 people were injured. This then started the Revolution of 1905.

    The Revolution of 1905 was all about strikes and things not being fair; they needed changed made to their government. So, the Duman was made to make new laws. They had very little power and many parties were made because of Duma. The Octobrist party was poeple who were good with the Duma having little power. The Constitutional Democratic party is people who want the Duma to have more power. With those parties being made, the Duma still stayed with limited power.
  • World War I

    World War I
    The first thing that happened with Russia and World War One was Germany declared war on them. The Russian army did horrible. They didn't have a good officer, needed more food, and they needed more supplies. Then, Russia tried to go into Germany, but they were beat out. Germany won and got part of Russia that they wanted.
  • The March Revolution

    The March Revolution
    Again, like before in Russian history, many workers went on strike. 90,000 textile workers went on strike about not having enought fuel and food. After just a small amount of time, the strike had 400,000 people. The Czar sent the military to stop them, but something happened. The military killed their officers and joined the protesters. The Czar was later killed and the Duma stepped up for now.

    Czar Nicholas II was forced to abdicate the throne. No one really liked him because he wasn't powerful and he helped Russia lose World War I to Japan. He had many unfair living conditions and was just an unpopular czar of Russia.
