  • The Great Northern War

    The Great Northern War
    The Great Northern War took place between Denmark, Norway, Russia, Poland, and Sweden. Denmark, Norway, Russia, and Poland all wanted to take back Sweden's Baltic power. The war ended in defeat of Sweden and Russia gaining new major power in the Baltic Sea.
  • Decembrist Revolt

    Decembrist Revolt
    This revolt was held against czar Nicholas I. This was the first rebellion of Russia, which occured after the death of Alexander I. The revolt ended in failure as the people tried to overthrow the old order of the government.
  • Alexander II Emancipates the Serfs

    Alexander II Emancipates the Serfs
    Czar Alexander II made a huge decision freeing the serfs. Prior to freeing the serfs, important changes were made in commerce and legislation produced large numbers of limited liability companies. This created many job oppurtunities for the serfs.
  • Assassination of Alexander II

    Assassination of Alexander II
    Czar Alexander II was assassinated on March 13, 1881 in the town of Saint Petersburg. Alexander II started his usual sunday by traveling through town to take military roll call. One man attemted to through a bomb at the czar's bulletproof carriage, but failed. The second man threw the bomb at the czar's feet, which exploded and killed Alexander II instantly.
  • Russo-Japanese War

    Russo-Japanese War
    The cause of this war was France, Russia, and Germany all wanted Japan to evacuate Port Arthur. Japan launched a suprise torpedo attack on Russia in 1904. Russia struggled throughout the war with a shortage of men and supplies. With an internal revolt taking place in Russia, the nation sued for peace.
  • Revolution of 1905

    Revolution of 1905
    This revolution was caused by Russian citizens wanting more political democracy. The citizens also wanted union recognition. Along with more economic demands.
  • Bloody Sunday

    Bloody Sunday
    150000 workers protested on Bloody Sunday. More than 100 workers demonstrating outside Winter Palace were shot and killed by czarist soldiers. This massacre sparked a revolution that spread throughout Russia.
  • Russia's Involvement in World War 1

    Russia's Involvement in World War 1
    Russia was helping Serbia after a trained assassin from Serbia assassinated the Austria-Hungary duke. Germany promised Austria-Hungary that they would back them up in the war. Austria-Hungary used the assassination as an excuse to start war.

    This revolution took place in March 1917. It led to the abdictation of Nicholas II. Along with the installation of provisional government.

    Czar Nicholas II Abdicates the Russian Throne
    Russian czar Nicholas II was forced to abdicate the Russian throne. This occured during World War I. Russia's involvement in the war devastated Russia. Russia's people revolted against the czar, which ultimately gave Nicholas II no choice but to give up the throne.
