    Start of the Great Northern War
    The Great Northern War started in the 1700's and ended in 1721. Russia and other countries tried to take on Sweden near the Baltic Sea. The war affected Russia when Russia got to expand it's territory in the Baltic Sea.
  • Decembrist Revolt

    Decembrist Revolt
    In 1825, a small group of nobles and army officers wanted to overthrow the czar's government and make it a constitutional monarchy. Nicholas the first did not like this. He crushed their uprising. He killed five leaders and moved hundreds to Siberia. Nicholas was very angry. He imposed strict censorship on everyone because of this revolt. He banned books that might have liberal ideas and targeted schools/universities as centers of unrest. He had a secret police that spied on students, teachers,

    Russo-Japanese War
    Japan launched a suprise torpedo attack on Russia and then Japan armies invade Port Arthur. This created a lot of tension in further years.

    The Revolution of 1905 was an uprising that many people wanted Czar Nicholas ll attempted to change the government. The government was an autocracy and people wanted a constitutional monarchy. This affected Russia because soon Bloody Sunday happened.

    On a Sunday afternoon, Father Georgi assembled a peaceful protest to help local factory workers. The petition asked the czar for better working conditions in the factory. On Sunday, thousands of unarmed men, women, and children carried pictures of the czar and sang his hyme. As the crowd got closer the soldiers openfired. Hundreds died that day. This effected Russia because it sparked the Revolution of 1905.

    This affected Russia because it led to the adbication of Nicholas and a provisual government. There were all different kinds of riots and fights. There were food riots, strikes, and war protests. This led to mass destruction.

    There was a lot of revolet and violence happening. Nicholas the Second agreaed to set up the Duma and to make other minor reforms. The Duma had littl epower. This failed to resolve Russia's power. The government resigned and they asked for an emperor to abdicate. Czar Nicholas the Second renounced the throne for himself and the heir Alexi.

    This was some of the hardest and longest fighting that was centered in Russia. This war was called the Reds VS. the Whites. The "Reds" were Communist Bolsheviks and the "Whites" were the anti-communist people. The Reds won the war and the Allied troops were got out. Since, Russia and Poland were in a war too, this affected them. Russia and Poland signed a peace treaty.
