    The Great Northern War was during the time span of 1700 to 1721. This war was fought between Charles XII and Peter the Great. Sweden had lost the war as a result of Russia being the victor. This came as a result of Russia leading the region.
  • The Decembrist Revolt

    The Decembrist Revolt is a small group of nobles and army officers that had tried to overthrow the czar's government. The group hoped to set up a constitutional monarchy. Nicholas I had than quickly put an end to the uprising. Nicholas had than executed five leaders and exiled more than hundreds to Siberia.

    In 1861 Alexander II had freed the Serfs. The serfs had than gained some political rights. Their rights also involved being able to keep tools and their homes. Alexander II encouraged the buildings of schools and also improved health care.

    Czar Alexander II was kiled in the streets by a bommb that was thrown in the streets of St. Petersburg. Before the assassination they had murdered many officals. Alexander's assins were arrested and hung. ALexander II had modernized Russia before his death.

    Nicholas II wanted to end the violence, therefor he finally agreed to set up an elected assembly which was called the Duma. Though the Duma had little power the reforms failed to resolve Russia's problems. The autocratic ruler was in power, inequality and repression stayed remaining. In 1904 there was a war that occured that had fought over the control of Manchuria/Korea. The Russians has lost, which over 400,000 soldiers were killed, captured and wounded.

    Bloody Sunday was a massacre in St. Petersburg, Russia. Many people had protested about the working and living conditions. Soldiers had appeared as the group headed toward the palace. Father Gapon had started shooting which than he had saw soldiers. Suddenly there were many gunfires as a result of this over one hundred laid dead.

    The Russian government was willing to risk an armed conflict. The conflict eas a belief that Japan would be defeated by Russia. Japan had attacked Port Arthur and made Russia flee. Japan than gained world power.

    This revolution included riots and strikes throught the cities. In the countryside, peasants had burned homes of landowners. Czar Nicholas II had than agreed to set up an assembly called the Duma. The Duma had failed to resolve Russia's basic powers.

    This revolution took place in March 1917. Many riots occured in Petograd, which was the Russian capital. The crowd protested to have room to store food. These protests began to spread which than the government sent troops to restore this order. The Petrograd riots had lasted about a week and Czar Nicholas II than finally gave up on the throne. The government than introduced freedom of speeck and reliogion.
