    Peter The Great was the Czar at the time of The Great Northern War.The war lasted for twentyone years, Russia wanted to gain access to the Baltic and Black Sea, and even more land. Russia didn't get what they wanted. Sweden blocked Russia from getting near the Baltic.
  • The Decembrist Revolt

    The Decembrist Revolt
    A small group of nobles and Ary Officers tried to overthrow the Czar's government. The wanted a Constitutional Monarchy. Nicholas I didn't like this and stopped the uprising. 5 leaders were killed and others were sent to Sibera. Russian Nationalism happened instea of the Monarchy.

    Czar Alexander II Emancipates the Serfs
    The serfs were owned by nobles. They couldn't vote they didn't have any rights, and they kept getting poorer and poorer. So when Alexander II ends slavery the serfs were no longer slaves. This led up to the serfs protesting because, they still didn't have many rights.

    A Group Called the People's Will (Terrorists and assassination group) was trying to overthrow the Russian Czarist autocracy. They tried to murder other officials.They wanted it to end so they through a bomb at Alexander II. He died in the streets of St. Petersburg. The Peasant Revolution was advocated.

    Japan Launched a Naval attack against Port Arthur. Japan Won a series of attacks on Russia. In March, Russian troops were defeated at Shenyang, China. One of the greatest causes of the Russian Revolution.

    It was supposed to be a peaceful march where factory workers would give a petition to Nicholas II. The petition as for better working conditions and freedom. The people were shot at and more than 100 died. This sparked the Revolution of 1905.

    People were mad at what happened on bloody sunday. Riots and strikes started happening in the cities. In the country peasants started buring and loosted the homes of landowners. After all this happened the Czar decided to set up the Duma which didn't have much power.

    This is the war that Russia Fought againt Germany, Austria/Hungry, and the Ottoman Empire. They fought on the Eastern Front from the Baltic to the Black Sea. Russia's army did not have many weapons or weapons so many people were killed and wounded. After the Russian Revolution in 1917 Russia withdrew from the war. This war put many people in horrible situations so of which are homelessness and starvation.

    Rioting and Strikes started happening in St.Petersburg. It started because of the food shortages in the city. There were wider problems of a worsening economy and repeated failures on the battlefields of World War I. This led up to the ending of
    Nicholas II's rule.

    He was forced to give up throne. Russia was involved in the World War II and fought for many years. The Soldiers lacked weapons and skilled leadership so many people died. People lost family members, and many people were going hurgry and loosing their houses.
