  • The Great Northern War

    The Great Northern War
    Czar, Peter the Great, wanted a warm port in the Baltic sea to transfer goods and other products to other countries. A war broke out between Sweden and Russia for the port. This war was called The Great Northern War. In the end, Russia defeated the Swedish and got the port.
  • The Decembrist Revolt

    The Decembrist Revolt
    This event took palce in St. Petersburg, Russia at the Winter Palace. This was when some people wanted to overthrow the czar and the czar at the time ordered to have those people executed.
  • Alexander II Emancipates the smerfs

    Alexander II Emancipates the smerfs
    In 1861, Czar, Alexander II, emancipated the smerfs. This means, he freed the smerfs. The smerfs were basically like slaves, but to Russian people and the Czar. After the smerfs were emancipated, very few smerfs could buy land. Not many free smerfs could buy land if they wanted to because land was expenive and it had high taxes and smerfs couldn't make enough money to keep the land.

    In the 1860's, some Russians were angry with the Czar and the slow pace of the things changing in the country. Then they tried to recruit pesants. The plan backfired and as a result, Czar Alexander II was killed in St. Petersburg, Russia.
  • Russo-Japenese War

    Russo-Japenese War
    The Russians should have won this war, but there were limited men fighting and limited supplies. Also, the time it took to get to the other side of Russia took about one week's journey on the railroad. Also, they only had one train going from one side of Russia to the other side. In the end, the Japenese won and becasue of this defeat, the czar at the time, Nicholas II became unpopular. The Russo-Japenese War led to the Revolution of 1905.
  • Bloody Sunday

    Bloody Sunday
    A Russian Orthodox Priest, Father Gapon, led a peaceful march to the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg, Russia. In this march there were 200,000 workers who were not happy with their working conditions. They were basically goin on strike. The czar ordered his soldiers to attack these people. As a result of the czar's actions, 100 people were killed and 3,000 were wounded.

    This revolution was very unorganized. The pesants set fires to fields so the crops don't get into the Czar's hands. The pesants also slaughtered animals and attacked the nobles. Not only did the pesants attack the nobles, they threatened them too. This event is what made the Russian Constitution becasue the Czar had limited power and the Duma was created.

    World War I had a great impact on Russia. This war lasted four years, so it ended in 1918. In 1915, Czar Nicholas II was in command of the Russian Army. Russia had lots of soldiers at their advantage, but they had poor railroads so they couldn't easily ships equipment. During this war, Russia gained more land.

    Czar Nicholas II abdicates the throne
    During the March Revolution, Czar Nicholas II is forced to abdicate the Russian throne. After he abdicated the throne, he and his family moved. Little did they know they were being captured and being taken to Siberia as prisoners. The Czar's family was taken by Bolsheviks. They were then later executed.

    This revolution took place during World War I. The monk, Rasputin is already dead and the Czar and his family was dead.
