    The Great Northern War, which lasted from 1700 to 1721, was fought between Sweden's Charles XII and a coalition lead by Peter the Great. Sweden had lost her supremacy as the leading power in the Baltic region and was replaced by Peter the Great's Russia by the end of the war.

    After hearing that the USA made slavery againts the law, Czar Alexander II wanted to make serfdom illegal too. Although serfs weren't techecly slaves (they weren't owned by the employer), he still felt it was inhumane.
  • The Assassination of Alexander II

    The ruler of Russian since 1855 was killed in the streets of St. Petersburg by a bomb. The bomb was thrown by a member of the "People's Will" group. This group was organized in 1979, and was an employed terrorism and assassination in their attemp to overthrow Russia's czarist autocracy.

    Japan was the first Asian military to defeat a European force when they were victorious in this war. Japan wanted Russia to abandon its expansionist policy in the Far East.
  • Bloody Sunday

    Russia was very close to loosing the war against Japan, when a group of people went on a peaceful march through the city. Things turned "bloody" when the harmless walked turned into a mass shooting.
  • Revolution of 1905

    The Revolution of 1905 was some caused by the government, some not. It included worker strikes, peasunt unrest, and military mutinies. This revolution led to the creation of the limited constitutional monarchy, the state duma of the russian empire, the multi-party syste, and the russion constitution of 1906.

    In February, the ruler of Russia since 1894, must abdicate his throne. And a provincinal government replaces him.
