    Industrial nations viewed their military strength as national power during this time frame, ultimately causing fear of an overpowering nation. This fear sparked continental growth of military power and what nations thought was National Power. This was all proved to be redundant and resulted in a stalemate between powerful nations.

    The spread of Industrialization further pursued the causes of WWI by advancing weapons and producing them in greater numbers.

    German Formation and Alliances Developed

    Germany, under the rule of King William I and Otto Van Bismarck, Prime Minister, unified as one to fight France. Because it is unwise to jump to war without any allies, Germany made Alliances with neighboring nations. Germany's alliance was known as the Triple Alliance and it consisted of Italy and Austria–Hungary. However, after WWI started, Italy left the Triple Alliance and came to the side of the Triple Entente, which consisted of Britain, France, and Russia.

    Australia Claims Bosnia

    Austria claims Bosnia as its own territory; so did Serbia. Having to negotiate between land dispute, Austria sends Ferdinand to Sarajevo (capital of Bosnia) to show Austrian authority. This is when he is murdered by Princip, a member of "The Black Hand" Nationalist group.

    Serbia Refuses Australia's Ultimatum

    Serbia refuses to agree with Austria's ultimatum - allowing them to investigate further the case of Archduke Franz Ferdinand's murder.
    This decision caused an activation of the Alliance system which caused the outbreak of continental war in Europe.

    The Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand by Gavrilo Princip, a Serbian nationalist and member of the Serbian Nationalist group "The Black Hand".

    Treaty of Versailles that was one of the peace treaties at the end of World War I. It ended the state of war between Germany and the Allied Powers. It was signed on November 11, 1918 exactly five years after the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand.
