  • The Great Northern War

    The Great Northern War
    The war was started off a alliance. The alliance was made between Denmark, Norway, Russia, and Saxony. This alliance went up against the Swedish Empire. At the time the Swedish Empire was ruled by Charles XII. Charles XII was very inexperianced and was only 18 years old. Lots of the Sweedish Army was destroyed in a town called Poltava. Russia won this war and that also helped the Russians out because they now hold the power to the Baltic Sea.

    The Decembrist Revolt
    THe Decembrist Revolt was in Imperial Russia. 3,000 Russian soliders went to break up a protest about Nicholas the First's idea of getting the throne after his brother removed himself from the throne. Some of the Decembrists were part of this revolt were sent to a siberian prison. It is always freezing cold and the send you to those prisons with the intentions that you are goin to die. This event was taking place in December and because of that any rebels were named Decembrists.

    Czar Alexander II Emancipates the Serfs
    Czar Alexander the Second was known not only as a czar but he was The King of Poland and The Grand Prince of Finland. He was born in Moscow. He only got married once. He had eight children with the woman that he was married to. Throughout his marrige though he had many "visitors". He had 7 children with his "visitors", some while he was married and others after his wife had passed away. He was then killed in 1881.

    The Assaination of Alexander II
    There were multiple attempts to kill Alexander the Second. There was one attempt in 1866, and there was another attempt in 1879, and then another in 1880. He was assainated in Saint Petersburg. Nikolai Rysakov set off one bomb but there was another man with a bomb just incase the other bomb failed. They knew where Alexander was going to be because he did the same thing every Sunday. At 3:30 in the afternoon that day, Alexander the Second was put to rest.

    Bloody Sunday
    Workers and familes went out that days with the religious icons in their hands, went and fought. That Sunday was a massacare. The army sent out warning shots out into the crowds. This amde the protesters very upsent and they started shooting each other and fighting. The final counts of death was more than 4,000 dead.

    This was the first great war of the century. The war was a fight between The Russian Empire and The Empire of Japan. At the time they were fighting over what is now known as Korea.
  • Revolution of 1905

    Revolution of 1905
    The revolution started because there were disputes over labor unions. Factory workers wanted better working conditions and they asked the government to create labor unions. The government said no so the workers went on strike. Dozens of workers were skriking outside. The goverment shot out into the crowd and killed hundreds of people. This was he start of the Revolution of 1905. The revolution lasted for several years and the czar was still in power. The revolution was a failure.

    Nicholas the II Abdicates the Throne
    Russia believed he lacked the qualities of a leader, and many of the people were poor and hungry and blamed Nicholas. Nicholas couldn't handle the pressure so he abdicated the throne.
  • The March Revolution

    The March Revolution
    The March Revolution all started when textile workers went on strike because of a shortage of bread and fuel. In one week over 400,000 people joined the rest of the textile workers., Several years before the czar made it illegal to protest, the czar then had military men go out and shoot the protesters. The army/military disobeded his orders and joined the protesters. The czar and his family were sent to live out the rest of their lives on house arrest and later they were killed.

    Russia took part in World War 1 because of Siberia.
