    Peter the Great wanted to have a navy, so he looked at the Baltic Sea and saw that it didn't freeze over in the winter. Well, it was Sweden's port and they didn't want to give it up. So, they fought for 21 years, trying to keep power of it, fighting on and off.
  • The Decembrist Revolt

    The Decembrist Revolt
    Officers led 3,000 soldiers in protest of Czar Nicholas's taking of the throne after his brother gave it up. 5 officers were executed and thousnds were exiled. This did not make anyone that saw this happy, but they brought it upon themselvesd by trying to take down the Czar.

    Czar Nicholas II Emancipates the Serfs
    Nicholas thought it was time that the Serfs should have their freedom, so he signed a law stating they were free, but if they wanted land, they had to pay a hefty price, so most of them stayed in poverty. This made the peasants very angry, for they wanted to have land, but htis didn't allow them to have any land unless they had actually saved up. This made people not on friendly terms with the Czar.This eventually lead to revolt.

    Assassination of Alexander II
    Many attempts were made to assassinate this Czar, and a big plot finally took him to the afterlife. In a day which involved three different bombs killed the Czar on bomb number two, a grenade.

    The Russo-Japanese War

    In this war, Russia and Japan were fighting over present-day Korea, both together at that time. Russia should have won because it's attached to it continentally and because of their vast numbers in men. Instead of wining, they lost quite quickly.because of the Trans-Siberian Railroad. The railroad was a one track rail with an old engine chugging alon on it. It took a week to get from the Western, more populated area of Russia to the barren Eastern End. Russia would have almost no men in this war

    Bloody Sunday
    Thousands of laborers and other people marched up to the Czar's palace. All they wanted was to peacefully ask for more worker's rights. Then the Czar had soldiers, wherther they wanted to or not, gun the crowd down. No one knows the exact number of dead, but it was at least into the hundreds. After this, the Czar had to deal with the Revolution of 1905.

    Ever since Bloody Sunday, the people of Russia were a bit tired of the Czar's reign, so they revolted. This is what erupted. A war of one country fighting itself. It also spurred from hundreds of worker strikes, Also, the Czar wasn't answering their pleas for new reforms.

    Russia joined World War One with nearly no weapons, but plenty of soldiers. One advantage that Russia actually had was that whenever someone tried tyo invade them, they'd freeze to death! Hooray for that and all, but you must remember that the Russians had a small amount of weapon to person ratio.

    The February Revolution was a very quick revolution, only lasting three days. It had no real planning, but ended with the Abdication of the Czar's throne. The revolution was very insignificant to anyone because it was just a bunch of angry peasants.

    Nicholas abdicated his throne because his son wouldn't last as long as him, so he let it go to his brother, who declined.
