Events Leading to the Russain Revolution

  • Czar Alexander II Emancipates the Serfs

    Czar Alexander II emancipated the surfs in 1861. The surfs were freed from working for their lords, but still they didn’t have enough money to buy things they needed.
  • The Assassination of Alexander II

    Alexander II was assassinated in the streets of St. Petersburg by a bomb. There had been other attempts before this. This relates to the Revolution because the people who hated the Czar had killed him.
  • . The Russo-Japanese War

    Russia was trying to expand into Korea, this provoked Japan. The result of this war was millions spent, 1000s of soldiers died, and Russia was seen as a weak nation. The Russo-Japanese War connects to the revolution because the people got angry and blamed the Czar; they did not like the way their country was.
  • Bloody Sunday

    People went to the winter palace and were peacefully protesting for more democracy, food, and jobs. Soldiers opened fire and hundreds were killed. This relates to the Revolution because people were protesting for things the wanted to be changed.
  • The Revolution of 1905

    The people of Russia were angry because they hear of the violence of Bloody Sunday. Strikes went on all through-out the country, and some peasants attacked their landlords. This lead to the Revolution because, more people were starting to protest against the Czar.
  • The March Revolution

    Workers were demanding more pay and were on strike. Later the Royal family was executed. This relates to the Revolution because the people were on strike and they had the ruling family killed.
  • World War One

    Nicholas I was leader during this time. The Russian soldiers didn’t have enough supplies or good transportation system. Also the people didn’t have enough food. This related to The Revolution because the people were started to dislike the way the government was handling things.
  • Czar Nicholas II abdicates the Russian throne

    Czar Nicholas II was forced to leave the Russian throne because of the strikes and riots that broke out in St. Petersburg.
  • The Decembrist Revolt

    This was an unsuccessful rebellion among the soldiers. They were against the new Czar after Nicholas the first died. This relates to the Russian Revolution because people were first standing up for what they wanted.
