    Sparked the beginning of the Great War in Europe. The archduke was killed by Gabrielle Princip. The assination took place because the people of Serbia felt they were being insulted. Ferdinand and his wife happening to be visiting the same day the Turks conqueured and defeated Serbia years ago. The Serbian population felt that the archduke's visit was a way of parading around his power over the Serbians.
