    Peace of Augsburg

    The Peace of Augsburg allowed rulers of states to declare if their religion was Lutheranism or Catholicism. Also allowed people to leave their state if they didn't agree with the religion chosen. This helped the Holy Roman Empire different religion group conflict.

    French Wars of Religion

    The French Wars of Religion began when the Protestants and Catholics started having conflict. France was divided by them, the Catholic Guise Family and the Huguenots. In 1562, the Catholics planned and massacred the Protestant which sparked the war. They had off and on fighting until 1572 when the Catholics launched massacres all over France. In 1598 Henry VI issued the Edict of Nantes that ended the French Wars of Religion.

    Bartholomew's Day Massacre

    The Bartholomew's Day Massacre was set off when Catherine, King Charles's mother, swayed Charles into thinking the Protestant leader was planning against them. On August 24, the killing started, Charles tried to stop it, but he's pleas kept going. The mass slaughters continued till October. Around 3000 Protestants were killed in Paris, and around 70000 were killed all around in France. These killings resumed the French Religious War.
  • Edict of Nantes

    The Edict of Nantes was the stop of the French Religious War between the Catholics and Protestants. It allowed the Protestants to worship in public, but not in Paris, and granted them Civil Rights. The Edict also restored Catholicism everywhere Catholic practices were interrupted. It made the religious conflict more peaceful and France and ended the wars.

    30 Year War

    The 30 Year War began from religious conflict between the Catholics and Protestants in Central Europe. It was one of the most brutal wars marked in history with more than 8 million casualties. It started when the Austria and Czech Republic rejected Ferdinand and threw his representatives out the window. 30 years later of fighting the Treaty of Westphalia was signed and peace was made.
  • Treaty of Westphalia

    The Treaty of Westphalia was the treaty that ended the 30 Year War. It resulted in the Holy Roman Empire breaking, Netherland gaining independence, Sweden gaining control of France and Baltic, and German states, and others being able to choose their religion. Overall it caused a power shift in Europe.
