  • Cease-Fire for Suez Canal

    Cease-Fire for Suez Canal
    There was a cease fire for the Suez Canal. The war was between Britain and Egypt. Egypt didn't want the British to be in control of the Suez Canal anymore, so they attempted to kick them out and they tried to do this by force. There were riots over this and Britain threatened to take over Cairo, until there was a cease fire that led to a less violent manner. This ended the conflict and led Egypt to control the canal.

    Egypt, Jordan, and Syria go to War with Israel
    It was known as the Six Day War because it lasted for about six days. The war was fought between Egypt, Jordan, and Syria against Israel. The war started when Israel started a surprise attack against Egyptian airfields. Israel conquered several cities durring these surprise attacks. The war ended whe there was a cease-fire and it was very obvious that Israel had won.

    Egypt and Soviet Union Treaty
    Egypt and the Soviet Union were having a large amount of conflict and tension between the two because Egypt's president, Anwar Sadat, tried to make then start going to the west more. This caused Russia to get mad, and they signed a treaty to try and resolve the tension. The relationship between the two countries did not change after the treaty was signed though. Five years later, the treaty was repealed and no longer used.

    Egypt and Syria  go to war against Israel
    Egypt goes to war with Syria against Israel because of the land they lost. It was called the Yom Kippur War. They called it this because Syria and Egypt attacked Israel territories on Yom kippur which is the holiest day in Judaism. They attacked unannounced and advanced until they entered a stalemate with Israel. It ened with a cease fire and none of the sides truly won. It was only a six day war.

    Sadat was Egypt's president and he was assassinated by Jihad members. He was a loved president, because he led Egypt through many hard times and he also was president for 11 years. He was assassinated and Mubarak was then put into office where he was president for almost 30 years. He was assassinated in the victory parade in Cairo.

    there were a total of 62 people that were killed, most of the people killed were tourists. They were killed outside of a major tourist attraction that was Hatshepsut’s Temple. The people that led this massacre was an Egyptian Islamist organization that were exiled leaders. This massacre was an attempt to get more people to support the anti-government forces.

    There was a bombing in the Sinai Peninsula that killed 34 people and injured 171. The bomb was targeting tourists from Israel. The bombers were Palestinians that wanted to get into Israel to attack them, but they couldn't so they set the bomb there instead. This caused many Israelis to leave the peninsula and move back to Israel.

    Mubarak steps down from office due to a large uprising from many Egyptian protestors. He handed the power over to the army council. He stepped down after 18 days of demonstrations in 2011. After he stepped down, he and his sons were detained and questioned for 15 days and accused of corruption and abuse of power.

    President Morsi Ousted
    The military ousted Presidetn Morsi and put the country's constitutional court in charge. They ousted him and suspended Egypt's constitution. The ousting followed a four day mass riot, and the military gave Morsi 48 hours to respind to the rioting or there would be consequences. Morsi didn't respond, so the military came in ad kicked him out. Info.

    Egypt Votes on New Constitution
    Egypt voted on a constitutional referendum that was approved by about 98 percent of the people that votes. That averaged about 20 million people that voted yes for the new constitution. The constitution forbade party formation that was based on religion, geography, or raceand gender. It allows the president to be elected for four years and only serve two terms, and they are going to vote on a Minister of Defense.
