    Cabeza de Vaca

    Cabeza de Vaca was a Spanish conquistador. He and his crew set sail and crashed on the Texas coast in 1528. Throughout the 1530's he explored Texas with the crew members that survived the crash.
  • Jumano tribe wants Christianity

    The Jumano Native American Tribe want the Spanish missions from New Mexico to travel to the area of present-day San Angelo and teach the Jumanos about Christianity.
  • The San Clemente Mission

    The Jumano tribe get what they requested and built a Spanish Mission so that they can learn Christianity. After baptising 2-3000 Jumano Native Americans, the Mission was shut down 6 months after being established (it was re-established in 1684).
  • Establishment of San Fernando de Bexar

    55 people from the Canary Islands go to Texas to establish a civilian settlement, San Fernando de Bexar, which today is present day San Antonio.

    The first election was held in Texas, voters got to choose the officials of the municipal government of San Fernando de Bexar.

    Mier y Teran investigates

    Mexico was worried about the Fredonian rebellion so they sent investigators to explore ways to prevent things happening like the rebellion again. The investigators suggested that Mexico places more troops in Texas, to attract more Mexican and European people to immigrate to Texas, and to develope a trade between Texans and Mexicans.
  • The Law of April 6, 1830

    Relations between Texas and Mexico reach a low when Mexico forbid further immigration into Texas from settlers coming from the United States, it ended unfulfilled empresario contracts, Mexico set up forts to prevent smuggling and slaves, and Mexico discouraged trading by adding taxes.
  • The Protest of Anahuac 1832

    Colonists accused John Davis of taking supplies while merchants objected to custom duties Bradburn enforced on imports, which caused a skirmish. In 1832 Bradburn and 2 lawyers (including William B. Travis) were imprisoned.
  • The Turtle Bayou Protests and Resolutions

    It was a skirmish between Texan and Mexican troops. To resolve the skirmish Texan colonist had to declare their loyalty to Mexico and not to rebel.
  • The Battle of Velasco

    The Battle of Velasco was a battle between Texans and Mexicans. After several days of fighting, the Mexicans under Domingo de Ugartechea were forced to surrender because they ran out of bullets.
  • The Convention of 1832

    The Convention of 1832 was a meeting held in San Felipe where Texans discussed the formation of a separate state called Texas inside Mexico, allowing immigration from the U.S., to remove custom duties for 3 years, to provide land for public schools, and for Mexico to provide protection against Native Americans. The meeting's ideas failed because Mexico called the meeting illegal, so a second convention was said to be held in spring the following year.

    The Convention of 1833 was a meeting held in San Felipe and at the meeting Texans talked about the same topics discussed in 1832 but they wrote a state constitution.
  • Santa Anna elected President of Mexico

    Santa Anna was a federalist when he was elected, but with power he morphed into a dictator. He was elected because he held off Spain trying to conquer Mexico again.

    Austin Imprisoned and Released

    The copy of his October 21st letter was sent to Mexican officials, causing him to be arrested in December. He was released after Texan officials argued his case.
  • The Battle of Gonzales

    It is a battle fought over a cannon. Texas had a cannon that Mexico wanted, but Texas didn't give the cannon to Mexico, which started a battle.

    The Goliad Massacre

    It made Santa Anna look bad, which helped Texans recruit people. which helped Texans win independence. At the battle, 350 Texans were killed and Mexicans dishonored Famin's death
  • The Battle of Concepcion

    In The Battle of Concepcion James Bowie, James Fannin and 90 Texans defeated 450 Mexicans near San Antonio. It was the opening battle of the siege of Bexar and only lasted 30 minutes.
  • The Consultation

    It is where Texans met up to discuss the actions they should take to deal with Mexico. The peace party wanted to be friends with Mexico, but the war party wanted independence.
  • The Grass Fight

    The Grass Fight was won by the Texans under Jim Bowie and Ed Burleson. The Texans thought that the grass the Mexicans were transporting was iron so they freaked out and attacked the Mexicans, causing Texans to look bad.

    The Battle of the Alamo

    The Battle of the Alamo was a rallying point for Texans. The Mexican army was approaching a mission filled with Texans, and a battle started and lasted for 13 days.

    David Burnet was elected as the first president of the republic of Texas. He wanted annexation and didn't want fighting.

  • Texas Declaration of Independence

    The Texas Declaration of Independence was a statement saying that Texans wanted to become from Mexico and was signed on the 25th of March, 1836. An ad interim form of government was made for the newly created republic of Texas.
  • The "Battle" of San Jacinto

    This "battle" ended the revolution. Texans crossed a river towards the Mexican army sleeping, and the Texans took Santa Anna and killed most of Mexican army while they were sleeping.

    Sam Houston Elected

    Sam Houston was elected as the second president of the Republic of Texas. He didn't care about education, he wanted to end conflicts with the Natives, he added Texas Rangers to keep order and to protect Texans from Natives, and he put Texas more in debt.

    Mirabeau Lamar Elected

    Mirabeau Lamar was elected as the third president of the Republic of Texas. He plunged Texas way deep into debt, he ordered the Cherokee out of Texas, he denied annexation because he wanted Texas to be its own powerful nation, he expanded the Rangers and rebuilt the Navy, and he built schools.

    The Great Depression is when the stock market crashed, causing investors to lose money, causing investors to pay people less, causing unemployment and poverty as companies laid off workers.

    The Dustbowl

    The Dustbowl was a major drought spanning across all of North America but hit South Texas with severe force. The drought caused the wind to pick up the dried dirt and sand, making huge waves of sand that shredded crops.
  • The London Consolidated School Gas Leak

    A natural gas leak beneath the London Consolidated School triggered a massive explosion that killed an estimated 296 students and teachers. This caused the government to add odor to gas.
