    A day after the battle Discription Of the battle of Greenbrier</a>We had a battle at Greenbrier with the Yankees, I know how it started becasue I heard a couple of canons fire in the distabnce down the mountain. We lost 4 men and 21 were wounded, we whipped the Yankees back to Cheat mountain. I know where their camping at because I saw one of their tents.     I have headed up back up the mountain with a few others but most men are still down there at Greenbrier. We were disapontied when none of the Yankees came back to fight. It is snpowing now and we have had to move back into the cabins up here. I was on my post when I was told that our regiments and four others were to stay here until after winter.

    Dear Lizza we have been out making Clapboards for a astable for a while now and we don't know when we will be back at camp, me and a couple of boys are on guard and watch constantly just incase some yankees come about. We watch each other to make sure we are all still alive.

    We broke into one of the Yankees forts at Harrisonburg Virgina. We had a little fight to the right of Strassburg, and captured 52 Yankees. We flanked to the right in a strip of woods. Another fight occured and we lost General Ashby.

    General Jackson Was not in a fight all on his own father he had troops with him, and he was not in a fight when he lost his arm he was shot by our clumsy pickets during the night when he was beyond the picket line galloping. he is not ecxpected to live and I was informed that he is now dead.     The yankees broke at whinchester before we got there. we were nine miles toward middletown. We went three miles below town that night and stayed there for about three hours but shotly up ahead was other of our forces and they charged the yankees in the morning.     Dear wife we have been in battle with the Yankees Saturday-Sunday. We got sheld by the Yankees on sunday but a divison of us went two miles to the left and at the turnpike we turned right and marched down below at Whienchester. Soon the La. brigade runed the yankees out of their fourtifications. We took Martinsburg and we took fourteen pieces of artillery.
