    The Roman Senate held an important place within the Romans political structure. Originally made up of 300 men who served for life, the responsibility of the Senate was to give advice to the magistrates and that advice was not taken lightly. Later on into the Roman Empire the responsibilities of the Senate were slowly taken away by some emperors.

    Tribunes and the Council of the Plebs

    The Tribunes and the Council of the Plebs gave a voice to and protected the plebians. With both the tribunes and the council working together they could make proposals binding only on the plebians. The tribunes also were able to protect the plebs from arrest by patrician magistrates.

The wars seemed over after the second punic war, but the peace was broken slightly on Carthage's part and the war was once again waged. This time leading in the complete destruction of Carthage This marked a change in fighting styles for Rome.

    Reforms of Tiberius and Gaius Gracchus

    Tiberius and Gaius Gracchus were brothers who worked together to propose reforms for the small farmers. In making these reforms it caused instability in Rome and was a marking for the beginning of the end of the Roman Republic.

    Julius Caesar

    Julius was a member of the first triumverate and was a major figure in the late republic. His victories in the civil war made him a dictator for life and was another making of the end of the Republic and the start of the Empire.

    The Second Triumvirate held the last leader in the Roman Republic. When they all eventually fought for power Octavian ended up on top and ended the civil war along with the Republic

    Augustus was a very influential leader and happened to be the first real emperor of Rome. Through him, Rome grew and became a better empire. He also paved a path for future emperors to follow and grow from.

    The Five Good Emperors of Rome all succeeded each other and created a kind of peace. Before them, the Emperors were not doing good for the empire. So, the Five Good Emperors of Rome really helped in making Rome more stable again.
