The fight for the alamo started when Texans met at a settlement called Washington-on-the-brazos to discuss what to do about Santa Anna's troops. They decided to declare Texas a free and independent republic. -

In 1845 a newspaper editor John O' Sullivan gave the belief that James K. Polk invented a name he called it manifest destiny the belief of expanding the country. -
Polk urges war
A mexican unit crossed the Rio Grande and ambusshed a american patrol. Polk then sent a message to the congress saying this; "Mexico has invaded our territory and has shed american blood upon the american soil."
