Retaliation
Russia and Japan signed agreements over Korea and Mancharia. January 22nd, Russia broke the agreement and Japan retaliated and attacked at Port Arthur, Manchuria, Russin revalts in the midst of the war. -
Workers on Strike
Crowd of workers ambushed Czar's Winter Palace demanding better work conditions, Czar demanded soldiers to shoot into the crowd, killing several hundreds of people and wounding more than a thousand. This event was called, "Bloody Sunday". -
Creation of Duma
Group of Russians got together because they wanted to become a constitutional government. Czar broke that up after 10 weeks. -
Unprepared
Czar, Russia joined WWI, they were not prepared at all. They had no money or enough equiptment. -
Women on Strike
200,000 women texile workers led a strike because of the shortage of bread and fuel. -
Bolshevik Red Guards Take A Stand
Armed factory workers stormed the Winter Palace in Petrograd, named themselves the, "Bolshevik Red Guards". They took over power of the government offices and arrested leaders of provisional government. -
An End To The Royal Family.
Russia and Germany signed the Treaty of Brest- Litovsk. Russia surrendered a large part of their territory to Germany and it's allies. Many Russians were very upset about the humiliating terms, because of this, they objected the Bolsheviks and policies and to murder the Royal Family. -
Peace at Last
The Civil war finally came to an end in 1920. -
Recovery of the Country
Lenin started something similar to capitalism- called the NEP. It allowed farmers to sell their crops instead of handing the over to the government. The government still stayed in charge of other things. The NEP slowly helped the country recover. -
New Dictator
Russia was named the USSR in honor of the councils that helped launch the Bolshevik Revolution. Joseph Stalin became a dictator. He took over after Lenin suffered a stroke. As general secretary of the communist party, he worked to put his surporters into power.
