  • Austria Hungary Declares war on Surbia

    Austrian goverment blamed the Serbian government for the assassination of Franz Ferdinand and his wife and declared war on Serbia.
  • Battle of Tannenberg

    In this battle thousands of Russian men died and 125,000 were taken prisoner. The Germans won the battle but 13,000 of their men were killed.
  • Battle of Masurian Lakes

    The Germans, after defeating the Russian second army, turned their attention to the Russian first army at Masurian Lakes. Germany was not able to defeat the whole Russian army completely but over 100,000 Russians were taken prisoner.
