There were two sets of alliances The Triple Alliance which were the Germans, Austria-Hungary’s, and Italy. The other alliance was The Triple Entente which were the Britons, French, and Russians. Late in the war the US joined.

There was competition between the European militaries because they all wanted to be the most powerful.

The Europeans had so much pride in their empires making them feel threatened when their competition was gaining any sort of power.

Archduke Francis Ferdinand heir to the throne Austria-Hungary and his wife were shot by angry Serbians who thought that Bosnia belonged to them. This upset the Austro-Hungarian Empire and they declared war on them with their ally Germany backing them up.

Germany decided to invade Belgium in Great Britain told them to retreat but Germany refused making Great Britain declare war on Germany because Great Britain had a treaty with France that stated that if either one was to be attacked that one would step in and help.

President Woodrow Wilson declared war on Germany for all the things they did like going back on their word in for the Zimmermann telegram.

The British intercepted a telegram from Arthur Zimmerman a German stating that if the US enters the war and sides with the allies that Mexico should declare war on the US. Zimmerman also said that Germany would support them financially and military wise.

Millions lost their lives fight in WW1 and many caught diseases. Also women were given more of a chance in the work world.

At the end of the war America was at the top of it's game economically.

This was a peace treaty between everyone that was in World War1. This treaty put all the blame on Germany and made them pay for all the damages done in the war. Which made Germany really poor and enable to build their military.

In the United States the stock market crashed cause millions to be unemployed. There were hardly any trading going on with other countries, so everyone in the world started to feel the wrath of the great depression.

After WW1 Germany was left to pay for all damages leaving them to become the poorest they have ever been. For this is the reason why the Germans were so easily influenced by Adolf Hitler. He told them that he would help them get back on their feet. He did help them at first, but soon he had his own set agenda with taking over the world. Which started the second world war.
