Any one who lived in the city was forcibly moved to the country to become farmers. Money was worthless and basic rights were gone. Thousands of educated people were killed and tortured. the total death was estimated to be around 1.7 million. -

The pro-Vietnamese Kampuchean People's Revolutionary Party wins parliamentary elections. The international community refuses to recognise the new government. -

A peace agreement is signed in Paris and Sihanouk becomes head of state. -

Thousands of Khmer Rouge surrender and are taken by the government. -
Imprisionment for life
Hun Sen tries to take power over the prime minister, Prince Ranariddh, and succeeds replacing him with Ung Huot. This attracts the internation condemnation. The Khmer rouge put Pol Pot on trial and imprision him for life. -
Pol Pot found dead
Pol pot found dead in jungle hidout. -
Prince found guility
Prince Ranariddh is tired in his leave from the prime minister and if found guilty of smuggling arms, but is pardoned. -
Hun Sen
Elections are won by Hun Sen -
Rainsy royal pardon
Rainsy receives a royal pardon and returns home. -
Crimes agenst Hummanity
Any surviving Khmer Rouge members are senstenced to life in prison for crimes agenst hummanity. -
