  • Lon Nol over throws Sihanouk

    Lon Nol over throws Sihanouk
    The new king of Cambodia Lon Nol overthrows Sihanouk, Lon Nol was the prime minister of Cambodia but wanted more power so he overthrew the king (Sihanouk). He then sent his army into north vietnam to fight.
  • Beginning of Year Zero

    Cambodia begin one of the worst things the world has every seen, it's called "Year Zero". Every educated person in all of Cambodia was tortured or executed. The ones that did survive commonly died of working too hard or a very fatal sickness.

  • Vietnamese take Phnom Pehn

    The Vietnamese soilders take over the capital of cambodia, Phnom Pehn. In doing so the pushed Pol Pot out of Phnom Pehn and into the coast of Thailand. Many things before the khmer rouge were re-established (Education, more jobs, etc).
  • New Vietnemese government

    The Vietnamese destroyed the khmer rouge governemnt. They began they're own new government (Kampuchean United Front for National Salvation)
  • New prime minister and many guerilla soilders.

    Cambodia got a new Prime Minister, Hun Sen. Hun Sen was voted into office by the people, 1 of the first prime ministers to be liked by the people. Many Cambodians were becoming guerilla soilders. (Hundereds of thousands)
  • Vietnamese pull out

    The Vietnamese pulled out of Cambodia on October 23, 1989. This was a good thing for the Cambodians, Hun Sen removed socialism to help get more trades with other people. Buddhism is the new country religion. They also renamed cambodia to "The state of Cambodia".
  • Peace with Paris

    Cambodia sigined a peace treaty with Paris. Cambodia also got a new prime minister (Shianouk).
  • Monarchy

    The royalist Funcinpec party win the most seats. Sihanouk restores the monarchy and becomes the King of Cambodia. Cambodia is re-named to "The Kingdom of Cambodia".
  • Gureilla soilders surrender

    Thousands of Gureilla soilders surrender after the government says they wont press charges and can live freely.
  • Arms smuggiling

    Prince Ranariddh is in trial and is found gulity for arms smuggliling. Even though he is found guilty he is pardoned by the King.
  • Over thrown

    Hun Sen suddenly planned a coup on Sihanouk. The entire world looked down upon on this. The Khmer Rouge put Pul Pot on trial, he is sentenced with life imprisonment.
  • Pol Pot dies

    Pol pot died in his Jungle hide out in 1998. Many people beleive he was posioned by one of his people.
  • Genocide

    The Khmar Rouge was charged with genocide. The of course were found guility. They were fined with $560 million dollars.
  • Linking East and West Cambodia

    In Cambodia a bridge was built and it linked East and West Cambodia. This was a very good thing for cambodians because the can go places with lots more ease.
  • Prime Minister again

    Hun Sen was elected as Prime Minister on October 16, 2004. He was elected to deal with the royalist Funcinpec party. They also wanted him to get Cambodia into world trade.
  • Ranariddh sells location of Funcinpec party's headquarters

    Ranariddh was sentenced to 18 months of prison for selling the location of the Funcinpec party's headquarters. He was still sent to jail even though he denied selling their location.
  • Trouble between Cambodia and Thialand

    In Cambodia 2 Cambodian troops saw 2 Thai troops, they both fired at each other. The 2 cambodian soilders died and 1 Thai soilder died. This began conflict with Thailand.
  • Duch put on Trial

    A former leader of the Khmer Rouge "Kaing Guek Eav" also known as Duch was put on trial in 2009 for killing thousands of people. His appeal was denied in 2012.
  • Border tension calms down

    Cambodia and Thailand both withdrew troops from the border. The tension started to die between Thailand and Cambodia, things were becoming more normal for both countrys.
  • Shianouk dies

    The leader of cambodia, Shinaouk, died at age 90. Shinaouk lead Cambodia through lots of their hard times and he didnt give up on them.
