    Founding of Constantinople

    Founding of Constantinople
    Emperor Constantine was the one responsible for created the famed capital. Origanally known as Contantinopolis, or Constantine's City in English. The city soon became the capital of Byzantines empire for the rest of Byzantines existence.

    The Nika Revolts

    The Nika Revolts
    Nika revolts or riots lasted over the course of one week. It was the most violent riot in the history of Contantinople, with half of the town either burnt, destroyed, or both. Tens of thousands of people were killed either by fire or by one of the many riot people. This riot is also the riot responsible for destroying Hagia Sophia which would later be reconstructed and polished.

    Hagia Sophia Completed

    Hagia Sophia Completed
    The Hagia Sophia or Holy Wisdom was a large structure that after the Nika revolts was modified to its current status. Unfortunately when the fall of Contantinople came around Hagia Sophia was slightly remodeled yet again this time having all of its notable religious mosaics removed. The interior is shown in the picture.

    The Great Schism

    The Great Schism
    The Great Schism was the permenent separation of the eastern and western Christianity. This spilt was created by the many controversies the two religions had against each other. After the split the Byzantine Christian Church became the Easten Orthadox Church, while the west church became known as the Roman Catholic Church.

    Alexios I contacts Pope Urban II

    Alexios I contacts Pope Urban II
    Some time around 1095 the current Byzantine emperor, Alexios I Komnenos sends is ambassadors to appear at the Council of Piacenza to seek help from Pope Urban II. Despite the Roman Pope and Byzantine emperors long rivalry the Urban agreed to help him fight the Muslim Turks.

    The Fourth Crusade

    The Fourth Crusade
    The Fourth Crusade was a planned attack intended to conquer Jerusalem, under ruling of Alexios IV Angelos. The crusade won Constantinople after the murder of Alexios that occurred in 1204 AD, the year the crusade was completed. This crusade is also considered to be one of the last acts in the Great Schism. The Fourth Crusade lasted until April 1204.

    Fall of Constantinople

    Fall of Constantinople
    A seven week siege of Constantinople from the Ottoman Turks, who eventually did conquer Constantinople. Permanently claiming the capital as theirs and renamed it Istanbul.

    Emperor Basil II military conquests

    Basil II was the Emperor of Byzantine from 976-1025 AD. His was in need of aid when the Bulgarians came and attracted so he enlisted the Ventians to help protect the Dalmatian Coast and the Adriatic waters. Year by year he weened his way into the Bulgarians territory and finally he won the capital Ochrida and was given the nickname "Slayer of Bulgars".
