The Roman emperor shifted their base to the eastern Mediterranian. There Constantine rebuilt Byzantine then renamed in Constantinople. In 330 AD Constantinople was named the new capital of the empire and eventually in time the eastern Roman Empire was Byzantine.

The riots only lasted a week but tons of damage was done. Half of the city was being destroyed and burned away. Thousands of people were also killed.

Belisarius was sent to Persia by Justinian, many victories followed. He was then sent to Ostrogoths in Italy, he also won many victories there. While he was in Ostrogoth he took Sicily first in 535 AD. Next he took Naples and Rome in 536 AD. Finally he conquered Ravenna in 539 AD. Belisarius always behaved honorably towards the conquered and everyone respected him for that.

Hagia Sophia was completed in 537 AD. Justinian rebuilt the church after the riots to make Constantinople grander then ever. Hagia Sophia means "holy wisdom."

The war was caused by the religious beliefs of people. Byzantine was destroyed. The Muslims army beat the Sassanid Persian and the Byzantine Roman empires they had been fighting eachother before.

After Emperor Basil II victory in 1014 AD he gave the former Bulgarian leader court titles, positions in provincial administration, and high commands in the army.

This caused a permanent split between Eastern and Western Christianity. During the Middle Ages and after the Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholic contact remained distant and very guarded.

Alexius I asked Pope Urban II for Christian knights to help him fight the Muskim Turks. Even though Roman popes and Byzantine emperors never got along, Pope Urban II agreed. After Urban encouraged bishops and nobles to help. He eventually called for the war to free the Holy Land.

The Crusaders were diverted from fighting Muslims to fighting other Christians. After helping merchants from Venice defeat their Byzantine trade rivals in 1204. The Crusaders then captured and looted Constantinople, the capital of Byzantine.

On the harbor war ships shot cannons at the defensive wall of the capital. Constantinople still existed 1000 years after the fall of the Roman Empire. Constantinople is now present day Istanbul.
