  • British Mandate

    After World War I, the United Kingdom was given a mandate over the area known as Palestine, which it had conquered from the Ottomans during the war.
  • Jewish population increase

    By 1931, 17 percent of the population of Mandatory Palestine were Jews, an increase of six percent since 1922. Jewish immigration peaked soon after the Nazis came to power in Germany, causing the Jewish population in British Palestine to double.
  • The Holocaust

    Hitler appointed chancellor of Germany, begins killing of approximately six million Jews.
  • 1936–39 Arab revolt in Palestine

    The 1936–1939 Arab revolt in Palestine was a nationalist uprising by Palestinian Arabs in Mandatory Palestine against British colonial rule, as a demand for independence and opposition to mass Jewish immigration
  • Peel Commission Partition Plan

    Peel Commission suggested dividing Palestine into an Arab state and a Jewish state, however it was rejected as unworkable by the government and was partially to blame for the renewal of the 1936–39 Arab revolt.
  • The White Paper

    The White Paper of 1939 proposed restrictions on Jewish immigration and independence for Palestine with an Arab majority within ten years, however led to the Jewish insurgency in Palestine.
  • World War II begins

    WWII begins with German invasion of Poland.
  • World War II ends

    Japenese sign surrender agreement.
  • UN Partition Resolution

    Palestine was to be divided into a Jewish and Arab State, resolution is supported by both the USSR and the USA, while Arab countries refuse to recognise resolution.
  • Civil War in Mandatory Palestine

    War broke out after the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted a resolution on 29 November 1947 recommending the adoption of the Partition Plan for Palestine.
  • Declaration of Independence

    State of Israel become an independent state, recognised immediately by USA and on May 17 by the USSR.
  • Israel War of Independence

    Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan, Saudi Arabia declare war on Israel.
    Egyptian, Syrian, Jordanian, Iraqi and Lebanese invasion begin.
