In 1492 Columbus sailed the ocean blue. His landing in the Caribbean was a significant event in relation to imperialism. He sailed for the Spanish throne, in attempt to grow their empire's sphere of influence.

On January 15, 1493, Columbus had set sail to go back to Spain with many treasures including spices, fruits, vegetables, new plants, animals and gold and even some of the Natives.

Along with Hernan Cortes, the Spanish scorned the Aztecs' religion and sought to convert them to Christianity. They stayed on the land for longer and saw many treasures, which later on Cortes compelled Moctezuma to sign over his land and treasures to the Spanish.

In between the 1500s and 1540s, to make the empire profits, the Spanish controlled economic activities including trade. Gold and Silver were the most valued items that were shipped from Spanish America to Spain.

During the 1700s, Britain and France had come up as powerful rivals. They had come into conflict in Europe, North America, Africa, and Asia then turned into a worldwide struggle know as the Seven Years War.

the 1763 Treaty of Paris ended the French and Indian War, which is also know was the Seven Years' War. It states that the French give Britain any land east of the Mississippi River and was forced to cede Canada.
