After more than 150 years, the Aztec's arrived at the Valley of Mexico to start a successful economy. One of their gods, Huitzilopochtli, guided them to what soon to be Tenochtitlan. He wanted them to start a city where they find a screaming eagle on a cactus. They found Tenochtitlan in a swampy island. Tenochtitlan was established in 1345.

The Aztecs had temples for human sacrifice. They believed that if they fed their gods with human blood, it would keep them healthy, not causing them to die. If the gods did die, they would cause famim and poverty to everyone.

When the Spain arrived, the Aztecs had established a great empire and controlled a lot of land. Cortes, a Spanish conquistador, met the Aztec people, created allies with others using the Conquistadors' Formula, and was invited into Tenochtitlan by Aztec Emperor, Moctezuma.

In 1520, Hernan Cortes kidnapped Moctezuma, threathening others that he would kill him unless they followed. Moctezuma tried to tell the people that the Spanish were here for good reasons, he later died of rocks being thrown at him or being strangled. This caused a war. The Aztecs fought the Spanish but failed due to their disadvantage of weaponry and stragegy. Also, the Spanish brought the smallpox diease to Mexico which killed many Aztecs since they weren't immune to it like the Spanish were.

Cortes arrived at the Valley of Mexico on boats. He later burned them down (besides one) so they wouldn't have to report back to Velazquez in Cuba.

He is the leader of the Spanish troops. He grew up in Spain during the defeat of the Muslims and the Inquistion. Hernan was adventurous and ambitious.

Churches were important to the Aztecs. You could go there to talk to god (s) but they usually used temples for other religious studies.

The Spanish defeated the Aztecs, accomodated them to Christianism, started a new hierarchy in which the Aztecs were at the bottom (even the emperor), and set up new laws.

The Spanish made new ;laws like the 'marriage law'. Every Spaniard in New Spain had to bring his wife over from Spain or marry an indigenous woman or they'll lose their encomienda (land they were given.) This increased the Mestizo (mixed-raced people) population.
Their hierarchy had the Aztecs at the bottom.
