    Attila Flagelum Dei was born on the Danube in Hungary. He was born in 406 A.D. He was the son of Mandzuk but his mother is unknown. He went on to be known as Attila the Hun, due to his great contribution as a leader of the Hun Empire.(Harvey 10)

    Faxion sails.

    The Chinese Buddhist monk Faxian sails through the Indian Ocean and travels throughout Sri Lanka and India to gather Buddhist scriptures. He traveled by foot to recieve these scriptures. Faxian wrote a book about his travels, it helped us learn about the geography and history about countries along the Silk Roads. He also helped Buddhism evolve. ("5th Century")

    Attila became king.

    In 434, Attila's uncle, Rugila(Rua) died. Rugila was the leader of the Huns at this time. Attila and his brother, Bleda were now left in control of the Hun tribes. Sharing power could cause problems in the future of their reign.(Harvey 17)

    Treaty of Margus

    In 435, an embassy from Constantinople approached Bleda and Attila at the city of Margus so they could discuss a non-agression agreement with the leaders of the Huns. Knowing that the Huns were a Huge threat, the Romans agreed to give the Huns 700 pounds of gold yearly. This stopped the Huns from invading Rome for years.("Attila the Hun")

    Aetius hires the Huns to fight the Vandals and Franks

    Aetius, a Roman leader and general hired the Huns to eliminate the Vandals and the Franks. The Western Roman Empire faced increasing pressure from these to groups. The Huns basically started this by moving westward, forcing other groups to flee. This was a somewhat of an allience between these two groups. But the Romans had to be careful dealing with these blood-thirsty Huns.(Harvey 21)

    Aetius and Huns destroy the Burgundians

    While the main strength of the Hun's army was fighting in Persia, some merceneries were fighting alongside the Western Romans. Together, they drove out the Burgundians and defeated them. The Burgundians were driven as far back into modern day France.(Webb 20)

    Huns sack an Eastern Roman market town

    Huns start a period of agression with the Eastern Roman Empire by attacking a fortified market town on the border between their lands. The market place was supposed to be a place where the Romans and the Huns traded peacefully.On market-day Huns were disguised as traders and suddenly brought out their weapons and slaughtered many people. Yet, another event that shows the ruthlessness of the Huns and the havoc they inflict.(Webb 31)

    Huns capture Viminacium and Naissus

    While Eastern Roman forces are busy battling in Sicily, the Huns make their move to capture more Roman towns and cities. The Huns made Romans terrified and they all feared for their lives. The Romans thought barberians like the Huns lacked strategic skill, but that was a very wrong assumption. This shows that the Huns may go around killing at random, but they always have a strategy that usually works out.("Attila the Hun")

    Bleda dies.

    Attilla's brother dies. They bothe shared the rule over the Hun Empire. The cause of his death is unknown. Many historians think that Attilla may have killed his own brother to have all control over the Empire. Attila must rule his Empire alone, it is a great test for him, and he did very well. He went on as normal conquering more towns and cities and adding to his empire.("Attila the Hun")

    Council of Chalcedon, the fourth ecumenical council which taught Jesus Christ as one divine person in two natures. The debates they had here helped led to the big seperation of the Roman church. This helped create and evolve Roman Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church. ("5th Century")

    Attila married the teenaged daughter of one of his followers, a girl called Ildiko. There was a grand marriage feast for the couple, after which they retired to the wedding chamber. In the morning, Attila's servants became alarmed when he did not emerge from the room, and opened the door. Attila was dead on the floor, and his terrified young bride was huddled in the corner in shock. Some historians say that she might have murdered him, but it seems unlikely.     The start of the decline of the Western Roman Empire was started by the Vandals. This event is very significant because Rome was a very powerful Empire for many, many years. The end of one of the most powerful empires ever teaches a lesson, no matter how powerful one is, it can always be defeated. ("5th Century")
  • Huns attack Sassanid Persia and are defeated in Armenia

    A failed attempt by Attila and Bleda to invade the Persian Empire. The Huns had many losses and eventually lose to the Persians in peresent-day Armenia. This was a bad loss for the Huns, considering they were one of the most powerful and deadly empires of its time.("Attila the Hun")
  • Clovis becomes king

    Clovis I becomes king of the Western Franks upon the death of Childeric I. He goes on to be a pretty successful ruler. He was the first King to unite all the Frankish Tribes together.("5th Century")
  • Suebi establish the first independent Christian kingdom of Western Europe in Gallaecia.

    It was one of the first kingdoms to seperate from the Roman empire. Also, it was one of the first to mint coins. Obviously, this caught on and coins are still minted today. ("5th Century")
