    President Andrew Jackson is born in the Carolinas in 1767. This is the beginning of his new life.

    Jackson enlist in the Revolutionary Army
    He started in the Army as a boy, and later became a military leader- nicknamed "Old Hickory" for his toughness.- He had also lead the Americans to win the battle of New Orleans and became very famous because of this victory.
  • Battle of New Orleans

    Battle of New Orleans
    This battle consisted of the British and the Americans. The British had tried to attack the port of New Orleans to sail up the Mississippi to make a westward attack. Jackson was waiting and took a group of men to camp near New Orleans, to be ready for their arrival. They had won the battle and figured out that the battle had taken place 2 weeks after the war was already over.

    Known as the "Corrupt Bargain." Jackson had been running up against 3 other canidates for the spot of President, 2 for each party. Jackson had managed to win the popular vote, but nobody had managed to win the majority. Later, Henry Clay had been voted out of the running and had gone back to his duties as leader of the House of Represenatives. Clay had influenced the House to all vote for Adams, his buddy on the running. When Adams won, he thanked Clay by promoting him to Secretary of State.

    The runners for president this time were only Jackson and Adams. Most people noticed that Adams had not managed to do much in his term, so most everyone voted for Jackson. He had managed to win by a landslide. Most everyone decided that they should see how Jackson runs things because there was not much events that were in Adams presidency.

    Jackson had created the Act to remove the Native Americans westward of the Mississippi. They had drove more than 20,000 Indians to where present day Oklahoma. The Indians were removed from their homelands and were all forced to follow the Act, eventhough they all didn't want to leave.

    Jackson had placed a tariff that caused all goods from England were to be raised in price so that more people would by from the Northeren buisinesses. Southerners had gotten mad and South Carolina was trying to deny the tariff. Jackson had threatened them by saying he would send down soldiers if they had to. Jackson had decided that instead to lower the tariff so that nothing bad would happen like a war between the states.

    Many of the States wanted to prevent tribes from forming governments inside of the States. Georgia passed a law making all Indians follow the state laws. The Supreme Court had ruled in favor of the Indians, because they are protected by the US Constitution.

    Jackson had thought that the national bank was too strong and wanted to find a way to destroy it. The bank was allowed to control loans given to people at the state banks. These cutbacks on loans had made farmers and merchants mad because they could no longer get the money that they needed. When renewal of the bank had came, Jackson had refused to sign and it had become destroyed because he had not extended the charter.

    In 1838, more than 15,000 Cherokee Indians were forced to move from their ancestral homelands, and west of the Mississippi. More than 4,000 had died on the trip there to Oklahoma. This event had been known as the Trail of Tears.
