Jackson asked congress to lower the tariff, but some people still weren't satisfied with just that. S.C. even threatened that if the federal government tried to collect any taxes, they would secede and raise their own army. This infuriated Jackson. In the end, Henry Clay fixed the issue by proposing another compromise to lower the tariff over 10 years.
