    Andrew Jackson was born on March 15, 1767 around the border of North and South Carolina.

    Andrew Jackson and his brother were taken prisoner by British soldiers. Andrew's mother was able to get the soldiers to release them, but Andrew and his brother became very ill. Andrew's brother died and his mother did 6 months after.
  • Begins to study law

    Andrew Jackson begins to study law. He built a succesful legal practice, then moved to Nashville and succesfully for congress.

    During the war of 1812 Jackson became a general in the army.
  • Battle of New Orleans

    Jackson defeated the British even though his troops were outnumbered. He became a national war hero and earned the nickname "Old Hickory."
  • election of 1824

    Even though Jackson won the most popular votes, he didn't get elected.John Quincy Adams was elected, but Jackson woulld not give up. Soon he started campaigning for the next election.
  • The Cherokee Nation

    When the Cherokees found gold on their land in Georgia, settlers and miners also wanted to live there. The demand to move Indians increased, so the government came up with a plan to remove all the Native Americans from the Southeast. Jackson had long supported this plan, having first dealt with the Southern tribes after the war of 1812.

    In Adam's last months of presidency, a bill was passed that raised the tariffs on raw materials and manufactured goods. The Southerners were against this, and when Adams ran for president against Jackson again, the Southerners voted for Jackson,

    Andrew Jackson runs against Adams again, but this time Jackson wins. Unfortuanately, there were many rumors spread about the president's personal lives.Andrew Jackson's wife had many bad things said about her, and soon after all of this she died from a heart attack. Andrew believed she died because of all the stress from the rumors.

    John C. Calhoun (Jackson's vice president) understood the problems with the tariffs South Carolina was having. Calhoun created a law that said states have the right to judge whether a law of Congress is unconstitutional. To state his theory, Calhoun created a document called the "South Carolina Exposition and Protest." Calhoun allowed the document to be publishe, but he did not sign his name because he knew his ideas would cause controversy.

    On this day, Jackson was pale, thin, and sad looking, since his wife had just died. The capitol on the other hand was full of excitement from all kinds of peaople. Andrew Jackson was finally president.
  • Indian Removal Act

    In 1830 the Indian Removal Act was enforced.All Native Americans were foced to move west. Jackson thought his policy was "just and liberal." Unfortuanately this policy forever changed the relationship between the whites and the Native Americans.
  • Cherokees go to court

    All of the Choctaw and Southwest tribes have beenn moved, but the Cherokees refuse to let their land be taken. They went to the U.S. Supreme Court to stop their land from being taken.
  • Worcester v. Georgia

    The Supreme Court made the rule that only the federal government, and not the states could make laws governing the Cherokees. Georgia and Jackson ignored the supreme court. Now a small group of Cherokees have agreed to move west, but almost all of them still won't move.
  • Cherokee camps

    Altogether the troops rounded upo about 16,000 Cherokees, and forced them into camps. The cherokees were taken from their homes with no time to get any of their belongings.
  • Trail of Tears

    The Cherokees were now forced to set out on the lomng journey west.The indians were foced to march in harsh weather conditions without proper clothing, so many becane sick. One-fourth of the indians died.This jouney eventually became known as the Trail of Tears.
