Ancient Middle East

  • Judaism Created

    1809 BCE. Judaism was founded in Mesopotamia by Abraham. He said that God would make them a sacred people and give them a holy land. t's main location today is USA, Israel, and Europe.
  • Persian Empire

    550-330 BCE. The Persian Empire wsa a muslim group who took over the holy land. King Cyrus took over Babylon and freed the jews who were captured. It occurred over three continents. Eventually King Alexander took over.
  • Hellenistic Period

    334-323 B.C
    Jewish group who took over the holy land because after the death of King Alexander, his kingdom split. These two kingdoms were constantly at war while Rome was discovered. The Hellenistic Period is a part of the Ancient Period for the European and Near Asian space It is usually accepted to begin in 323 BC with Alexander's death and ends in 31 BC with the conquest of the last Hellenistic kingdom by Rome, the Lagid kingdom of Egypt.
  • Hasmonean Period

    142-63 BCE. The Hasmonian Period was a jewish group who took over the holy land because jews were prohibited from practicing their religion. This later led to revolt.
  • Roman Empire

    27 B.C - 393 A.D
    Christian group. Jews were born in Bethlehem were later cricified. Constantine legalizes Christianity. His mom Helena visits holy land, finds true cross and orders built on sacred sites.
  • Christianity Created

    33 A.D.
    Christianity developed out of Judaism. It is founded on the life, teachings, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and those who follow him are called "Christians." Christianity has many different branches and forms with accompanying variety in beliefs and practices
  • Byzantine Empire

    330-1453 AD. The Byzantine Empire was was christian group who took over the holy land because it was a greek speaking continuation of the Roman Empire.
  • Islam Created

    Islam was founded in 622 CE in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. This religion was founded by Prophet Muhammad. Islam is one of the largest religions in the world today.
  • Muslim Period

    638 - 1099 A.D
    Muslim group who took over the holy land for the islamic religion. The arabics conquered Jerusalem.
  • Crusaders

    1095-1291. The Crusaders was a christian group who took over the holy land through a series of holy wars. They were fighting to protecr Jeruselem.
  • Mamluk Period

    1250 - 1517 A.D
    Muslim group who took over he holy land who captured the dome of Jerusalem.
  • Ottoman Empire

    1301-1922. The Ottoman Empire was an islamic group who took over the holy land to take over Jeruselem for the islamic religion.
  • British Rule

    1600 - 1947 A.D
    Christian group. They took over because British captured Palestine from Ottoman. Jordan gains independance from Britain. United Nations partition calls for Jewish/Arab state in Palestine. With greater Jerusalem under international control, most Jewish groups agreed but Arabs did not. Britain eventually withdraws from mandate.
