    Florence Kelley
    1. Florence Kelly was an advocator for improving the lives of common women and children. After she helped win the passing of the Illinois Factory Act on July 1 in 1893, she became the chief inspector of factories for Illinois. She started a trend that was good for the Progressive Era. The act prohibited child labor and limited women's working hours. Other states soon followed this model.
  • U.S.S. Maine exploads

    U.S.S. Maine exploads
    2.The U.S.S. Maine was a ship President McKinley sent to Cuba to bring American citizens home from the dangers of the fighting. Afther the ship exploaded Americans were outraged. This was the final pull factor into the Spanish-American War. This was good for Imperialism because of this we enter a war that with a win gives us two colonies.

    George Dewey gives Open Fire command
    1. When Commodore George Dewey gave the "open fire" command in the Philipines the American squadran destroyed every Spanish ship in Manila Bay. This allowed us to land more troops on the Philippine Islands taking the territory away from Spain.
  • Theodore Roosevelt becomes President

    1. After the assination of President McKinley, Theodore Roosevelt was thrusted into the president posistion. This was very good for the Progressive Era because Roosevelt was an enthusiastic president. Under his presidentcy trustbusting, regulating railroads, and health laws were being put into action.

    1. When Panama Declared its independence there were about a dozen ships present. With the Panamanians separating from Columbia the U.S. now had permission to start buliding the Panama canal.
  • Voyage of the Great White Fleet

    Voyage of the Great White Fleet
    1. After the construction of the 16 ships that the Great White Fleet consistes of, the ships were sent on a voyage. This voyage demonstrated the sea power that the United States now had. Having naval powers was important in the Imperial Age because you needed a navy to protect your colonies over seas.

    1. The Bull Moose Party was a Progressive Party that Theodore Roosevelt used to enter the election of 1912. This split the rebublican party in two. Woodrow Wilson was elected president because of the split. This was good beacause Wilson was a Progressive President and he later handled the war in Europe to the best possible way.
  • Seventeenth Amendment is adopted

    Seventeenth Amendment is adopted
    1. The Seventeenth Amentment allowed direct election of the U.S. senators. This was good because it helped even democracy and clean up the government from power hungry people.
  • Franz Ferdinand is Assassinated

    Franz Ferdinand is Assassinated
    1. Archduke Franz Ferdinand was the heir to the Austria-Hungary throne. He and his wife were assassinated by Gavrilo Princip of the Black Hand. This is importantant because it was the spark that set off World War One
  • Panama Canal Completed

    1. The Panama Canal was a quick safe way to connect the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean instead of going all the way around South America. On August 15, 1914 the first ships went through the canal. Within the first year 1,000 ships passed thourgh. This is good for Imperial America because this will alow the U.S. to have a 2 ocean Navy easily.

    The Sinking of the Lusitania
    1. The Lusitania was a British liner. It was sunk by a German U-boat just off the south coast of Ireland. There were 128 Americans on The Lusitania. This was one of the big drives towards America entering World War One. If the Germans hadn't done this we could have sided with them.

    1. This Act required men to register with the government in order to be selected at random for military service. this was important because America needed an army to fight in World War I. Without the men that were drafted, America surely wouldn't have been ready to fight in the war.
  • Austria-Hungary surrenders

    Austria-Hungary surrenders
    1. Austria-Hungary surrendered to the Allies eight days before Germany did. The importance is that Germany no longer has any allies to help fight the war and feed their starving people. On this same day German sailor mutineied against government authority. Setting a trend for the rest of Germany.

    Armistice is signed
    3.The Armistice was the officiall cease-fire truce that ended the war. Needless to say this was very important because it put a stop to the most guresome war the world has seen yet. Without the Armistice millions of dollars and lives were saved.

    Nineteenth Amendment
    1. The Nineteenth Amendment was adopted in 1919. This amendment allowed Women to vote. This was very progressive because the rights of men and women are now equal.
