Started School at 5

Sep 3, 1955

I started first grade when I was five years old. There was no Pre-K or Kindergarten in those days. For six weeks I did not mix with the class. Then I suddenly got with the program.

Junior High School

Aug 3, 1965

Around 1965 I became an official teenager and moved to Barboursville Junior High School. There were no middle schools then. Junior High School was 7th, 8th, and 9th grades. My mom helped me out with a curly, curly perm.

Barboursville High School

May 30, 1968

I went to Barboursville High School from September 1966 through May 30 1968. I graduated and immediately enrolled at Marshall University as a Music Edcuation major.

Graduation from Marshall University

May 30, 1972

I graduated from Marshall University as a Music Educator in May 1972. I got my first job in Grant County, West Virginia.

Teaching Music

Sep 1, 1972

I taught Music Education in Grant County for five years, and in Cabell County for an additionaal ten years.

5th Grade Classroom

Sep 2, 1989

About 1989 my school was closing so I bid on a 5th grade classroom and got it. I remained there until August 2007, when I retired.

ESL & Adult Education

I started in August 2007 working with English as Second Language students in Cabell County. I have wonderful staff and students to work with, and I feel that I am helping students understand their class work.

Adult Education

I continued working with Adult Edcation students on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 3:00 - 9:00P.M. I also feel that I am able to help these students as they work to meet their goals.

Granddaughter

Olivia James Hensley was born at about 7:00A.M. My granddaughter is the light of my life. She is my mother's great-granddaughter, and we think the world of her. She is beautiful both inside and out.

What Next?

Time moves so swiftly just when you wish it would slow. I don't know what comes next in my life, but I plan to keep moving toward it. I haven't started rocking in the rocking chair just yet. Perhaps I never will.
