    In Mid Febuarary 1492 the Europeans explore further in the Atlantic Ocean and found what is now North America. when they arrived, they set up trading posts to gain resources.
    First Nations - "Who is this man that is has just arrived on our land!"

    Cartier Begins his Exploration
    A French explorer Jacques Cartier sails from France to North America.
    First nation: “There are so many new comers coming and claiming our land as there I’m a little suspicious of them." French: “We finally have an explorer from France in North America. Hopefully all the money we invested pays off!” British: “The French are now exploring North America too, this could end in conflict”

    Cartier takes Donnacona
    Cartier brought back Donnacona and 9 others back to New France. When he came back, only 2 came with him and he lied that they liked life better there so they stayed, but the Haudenosaunee did not believe him so they lost their trust with him.
    First Nations- "How dare he tries to trick us! Since he lied, we no longer trust him and his men so we shall not trade with him anymore
    French- "I think that they believe us so do not say anything about what happened."
    British- " Now is our chance."

    Cartier Finds First French Settlement
    On May 23rd 1541 Jacuqe Cartier goes on his third voyage. He then was sailing across the St.Lawrence River where he anchored at Stadacona. He decided to settle on the land and bulid a settlement.
    First Nations - "Since Jacque Cartier moved in we have other people moving in as well, it will be crowded."
    French - "YES! With Jacque Cartier bulding a settlement on Standacona, we can trade with the local on that land.
    British - "We should of done that and bulid a settlment too."
  • De Champlain finds Port Royal

    De Champlain finds Port Royal
    Pierre de monts and Samuel de Champlain found settlement Port Royal.
    First Nation-“These newcomers come to our land and are claiming it as there’s but it does not affect our way of life.” French-“After many years we have finally established a colony.”
    British-“The French are really interested in colonizing in North America. We cannot let them do better than us in North America.”

    The Fortress of Quebec was made between 1606-1620 and was under the French control.Quebec was also a fort and the fort surounded Quebec city.Quebec was beside the plains of Abraham were the Brithsh and French fought the bloodist war on canadian soil.
    Britsh perspective: "If the French have a land fort we have a big naval fort."
    French perspective: "The British have no chance aganst our fort because our fort is quiet big compared to theirs."
    FN Perspective: "If war is on why dont we join it."

    Wendat devasated by Scurvy
    The wendat were getting killed by a disease called scurvy.
    First Nations: "No! More of our people are dead. We can not give furs to the French now and our alliance with them might get weaker."
    French: "No! The wendat can not give us furs now."
    British: "No! If they want to trade, they can't."

    Hudson's Bay Company is Found
    On May 2nd, 1670, Radission and des Groseilliers start a trading post called the Huson's Bay
    First Nations- 'This is a great cahnce for us trade for their resources.
    French- 'We hope we made the right choice by not letting these two make a post. Hope it does not work!"
    British- "We are so happy we made this! Now we can collect furs and make alliances with our trading partners."

    Smallpox starts Killing More People
    In 1672 many Wendat people were killed by smallpox
    First nations:"No! More of our people are dead from smallpox and our alliance with the French might get weaker."
    French: "Oh no! The Wendat are dieing from smallpox. There will be no one to bring us our furs to Montreal."
    British: "This affects us too because if we want to trade, the First Nations will have no fur."

    Kelsey starts Exploration
    Henry Kelsey begins his exploration.
    First Nations- “We have met with a man that goes by the name Henry Kelsey, we must lead him to the prairies.”
    French-“The British are becoming more powerful with all the alliances they are obtaining, we have to act quick.”
    British-“We have many explorers in North America, but Henry Kelsey is good explorer and he is bound to come back with something good making England wealthier and more powerful.”

    FA and French discuss Peace
    In the summer of 1701, the First Nations and French start to discuss peace.
    First Nations- "I think this is a great opportunity to be alliances and share goods with each other."
    French- "WHOO! Now we have a chance to find cures for each other."
    British- "Oh NO! Now the French have more defence with the First Nations joining them."
  • Fortress of Louisbourg

    Fortress of Louisbourg
    The Fortress of Quebec was built in 1713 conqured by the French. the British later on went to seige the fort and conqured the fort for themselves. was original called havre a l'Angloisx. It was made into a fishing port grew into a commercial port.
    British Perspectives: "Since we conqured the fortress we can make our own ships to settle in."
    French Perspective: "If we just known they would attack us before the seige."
    First Nations Perspective: "Only if the French told us we would help."
  • Treaty of Utrecht

    Treaty of Utrecht
    In 1713, the signed the Treaty of Utrecht to create peace in Europe. The agreement gave French Louisbourg and Acadia went to the British. After, the British renamed Acadia Nova Scotia.British: “We’ve been enemies with them for a very long time. We think that it’s time to settle things now.”French: “We wanted to end the war but it had to be fair so we are now even and living in peace.”First Nations: “There is good and bad news. Good News: No more war. Bad News: British took our homes!”
  • Henday starts Exploration

    Henday starts Exploration
    Anthony Henday begins his exploration.
    First Nations-“We have met another explorer like this one who came from the Hudson Bay, we hope that he’s as good as the last one.”
    French-“Another HBC explorer venturing farther west. We need to expand of colonies more west to if we want to keep up with the British.”
    British-“We hope to bring even more fortune with this exploration and to make more alliances to help us fight against the French.”
  • Halifax was Found

    Halifax was Found
    In 1749, the British made a town and called the Fort Halifax
    First nation: Once again we lose land to the British.
    French: " Now we feel over powered beacuse the British has it's own town and now over powering us."
    British: Now we are more powerfull beacuse we have a town in Halifax.
  • Quebec Act

    Quebec Act
    This gave back to the French people civil law code that they were accustomed to under the Royal Colony. This allowed the people of Quebec to keep their language and traditions. Allowed the seigneurial land distribution system remain in place
    British: “We did not want trouble in Quebec so we gave the French more freedom for whoever lives there.”
    French: “Now we have a place for peapeace and freedom in British Territory.”
    First Nations: “Lots of our land got taken away and got put into Quebec.”
  • NWC was Formed

    NWC was Formed
    in 1779 a group of new traders made the Nothwest Company. These traders extended the fur trade further then it had been.
    First Nation - "If the new traders are extending the trading process, so we don not have to travel far."
    French --with the Northwest company opened, trading they can trade with the others of this land while we can trade with our people."
    British - "With the Northwest Company open we can trade with others from these parts.
  • Healy & Hamilton start buliding lethbridge

    Healy & Hamilton start buliding lethbridge
    JJ Healy and Alfred Hamilton formed a trading post on what is now called Lethbridge.
    First Nations - "This trading post is like the others but it led us to war on the Cypress Hills."
    French - "When JJ Healy and Alfred Hamilton made that trading post, it cause them to make a town and all of the indians trade with them."
    British - "We are impressed of JJ Healy and Alfred Hamilton with their success."
