Invisible Man: Reaction Journal

  • Prologue

    Ellison's writing is absolutely mesmerizing.
I am fascinated by the narrator%u2019s encounter with the blonde stranger and the whirlwind of thoughts that are pouring through his head about his invisibility
  • Chapter 1

Some of the mystery did go away and lessen my interest when I found the race of the individual simply because I was under the impression that the ambiguity of his background also served to his invisibility, but then I realized that the narrator%u2019s race was the thing that served his invisibility.
  • Chapter 2

I tend to put myself in the shoes of the fictional characters. So I wonder whether I would've thought as profoundly about the "commanding" statue of the founder covered in bird excretions or whether there could be visual photographs in my mind envisioning the past solely from the recesses of my imagination.
  • Chapter 3

This chapter took a turn in the story which I did not like. I didn%u2019t care for Mr. Norton or the inhabitants in the Golden Day, although on the other hand, there is an interesting versatility of the characters.
  • Chapter 4

The brief insight into Bledsoe%u2019s motives are very interesting. This is an underhanded way to gain his position, one that I can%u2019t exactly identify with since I prefer to be forthright than silently devise my promotion.
  • Chapter 5

I would like to get to know the character Barbee better. I wonder if he is connected with the founder since he seems to know his backstory so well. I also wonder whether he was always blind or whether it was the result of an accident, etc.
  • Chapter 6

All that goes through my mind about this chapter are questions.
Is Bledsoe once again taking up an ulterior motive by sending the narrator away rather than expelling him? Or is he merely being cautious? Is he a friend of foe of the narrator?
Would the narrator%u2019s grandfather approve of what he is doing and see that as the perfect form of %u201Cattack%u201D against the white race?
