    Russia Industrializes
    The industrialization in Russia brought problems, like bad working conditions, low wages, and child labor. Due to these factors many revolutionary movements began to grow and try to gain more control.
  • Czar Nicholas II comes to power.

    Czar Nicholas II comes to power.
    When Czar Nicholas II came to power he stopped all reforms in Russia. Czar Nicholas used autocracy in which he would have total power. He raised taxes as he tried to move Russia forward and industrialize. Russia ended up becoming the 4th ranked country for steel.

    Development of Revolutionary Groups
    As industrialization grew in Russia negative ideas began to spread. The rise of factories brought problems, and the workers had no opinion due to the banning of them by the czar. In order to gain political say, workers held strikes, and supported local revolutionaries. Many of these people followed the ideas of Karl Marx. They wanted to overthrow the czar.

    Bloody Sunday
    On this day workers went to the czars palace in order to demand better conditions and more say in the government. The czar ordered his soldiers to shoot at the workers, causing thousands to be injured along with hundreds of deaths.

    The czar Nicholas decided to enter World War I even though Russia was not economically prepared for the war. Russia was unprepared and most of its soldiers were killed and the weaknesses were revealed of Russia.
  • The March Revolution

    Women textile workers in Petrograd led a citywide strike. This lead to riots fueled by the lack of bread and fuel. 200,000 workers participated in this riot, and as time passed soldiers began siding with the workers. This began difficulty with the czar and his thrown.

    After the events of the March Revolution the czar needed to step down as the Revolutionary groups were succesfull. A year after this happened the czars family was executed.
  • The Bolshevik Revolution

    The Bolshevik Revolution
    Lenin and the Bolsheviks took control of the Petrograd Soviet, as well as the soviets in other Russian cities. Lenins slogan was "Peace, Land, and Bread"Factory workers took over Government offices and arrested the leaders of the provisional government. Lenin gave farmland to peasants, and factories to workers. He then signed a peace treaty with Germany.

    Lenin rewarded the people in order to gain power. He went against dictatorship and instead gave power to the people. Lenin defeated the group which wanted to bring back a czar and created a new economic policy to help the broken Russian economy.
  • Stalin becomes dictator

    Stalin becomes dictator
    After Stalin suffered from a stroke, Stalin gained power. After he gained total control of the communist party, he began his way up to the head of the government.
