Oil is found
Oil was found b niming engineer Capt. A.F. Lucas. The oil was found at Spindletop near Beaumont. This catapulted Texas into the petrolem age. -
First military flight in a Wright brothers plane
Lt. Benjamin D. Foulois made the first military air flight in a Wright Brothers plane. This took place at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio. -
World War I begins
On July 28, 1914 World War 1 began. This brought lots of chaos to the world. It was later ended in 1918. -

The war has finally come to an end!! This war took place in Europe. This war finally ended after four years of violence. -
Texas Tech Univetsity begins classes in Lubbock
On September 30, 1925 Texas University began classes in Lubbock. The school was known as Texas Technological College. Many kids went to this college for a great educatioin. -
Democratic National Convention
The Democratic National Convention was held in Houston. This was the first niminating convention held in a Southern city since 1860. -
League of United Latin American Citizens
The League of United Latin American Citizens is founded in Corpus Christi. Some people may refer to it as LULAC. This league was created with the aim of combating the discrimination that Mexican Americans faced in the United States Southwest. -
The Daisy Bradford #3
The Daisy Bradford #3 well was drilled near Turnertown in Rusk County. This was found by wildcatter C.M. Joiner. Also heralding the discovery of the huge East Oil Field. -
Texas Centernial Exposition opens
Texas Centernial Exposition opens at Dallas' Fair Park. It ran until November 29, 1936. This event was not open for more than a month bfore closing down. -
A massive explosion
A massive explosion blamed on natural-gas leak beneath the London Consolidated School building in Rusk County. This killed an estimated amount of 296 students and teachers. The total amount of deaths and injuries added up to 311 people. -
World War II begins
On September 1, 1939 World War II began. This is yet another year or so of chaos. This war started with the Germans invading Poland. -
World War II ends
The war has finally ended after 7 years of violence. The German forces surrendered in Italy on April 29,1945. Thousands of people were killed in this tragic event. -
The French-owned SS Grandcamp
The French-owened SS Grandcamp that carried ammonium nitrate exploded in the Texas City harbor. This was followedthe next morning by the explosion of the SS High Flyer. The disaster killed about 600 peoplw and injured about 4,000 more. -
University of Texas Medical Branch
The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston admits its first black student. They did this because only a limited nember of medical schools accepted black applicants. Another reason is because even a smaller number of hospitals accepted them for residencies in specialized fields. -
Tornado attackes
On May 11, 1953 a toranado kills 114 people. This tornado also injured 597 people in Waco and destroyed many houses and buildings there. In all there was about 150 homes destroyed and, 185 other buildings. -
Tidelands Bill
On the date of May 22, 1953 The Tidelands Bill is Signed by Pres.Eidenhower. Because this bill was signed it gave Texas the rights to offshore oil. Even thought Texas did not offshore alot of oil it did help because they did offshore some. -
Integrated Circuit
On September 12, 1958 Jack Kilby is successfully tested ushering in the semiconductor and electronics age. This now lets us play the video games we have today and use telephones. Some of the other thing it lets us do is watch televisioin and use computers. Without that we propably wouldnt have the electronics we have today. -
John F. Kennedy assassination
On November 22, 1963 President John F. Kennedy is assassinated in Dallas. Vice president Lyndon B. Johnson now becomes President of The United States. That makes him the 36th president of the US. -
Ed White walkes in space
On June 3, 1965 San Antonio native Ed White becomes the first American to walk in space. Ed White is a Lieutenant Colonel, U.S. Air Force. He was born November 14, 1930 in San Antonio, Texas. -
Charles Whitman kills 17 people
On August 1, 1966 Charles Witman kills 17 people in a shooting. He shot them from the observation deck of the main-building tower on The University of Texas. This campus is in Austin Texas. -
First words from surface of the moon
On July 20, 1969 Apollo 11 astronaut Neil Armstrong transmits the first words from the surface of the moon. The words said were "Houston, The Eagle has landed". This event was a big deal for NASA. -
Constitutional Convention meets
Constitutional Convention meets to attempt to write a new state constitution. However th delegates, comprising the membership of the 63rd Legislature, , become mired in divisive politics, and the convention adjourns on July 30, 1974, without a document. -
Several tornadoes in West Texas
On April 10, 1979 several tornadoes kill 53 in West Texas.
The tornadoes also kill 42 in Wichita Falls. These tornadoes caused $400 millon in damages. -
National Republican Convention
On August 20, 1984 the National Repeblican Convention is held in Dallas. This event only lasted for 3 days before closing. This convention was organised to cater to the conervative leanings of some Nigerians.
