After an attack was launched n Poland, Britain and France both delcared war on Germany. After one week, Poland surrendered. Since they surrendered millions of Jews, handicapped, homosexual and black people were put in danger from the Germans.

The ship the Bismarck sunk after a torpedo from an airplane damaged it's rudder making it immobile. After the torpedo hit, three battle ships attacked the Bismarck which led to it's defeat. The Bismarck was presented to be the largest threat to the Allies before it was sunk.

After the invasion of Russia the Germans began to execute many of their prisoners and Jews in the area. In two days a total of 33,771 Jews were executed and buried in mass graves. In 1941 600,000 Jews were killed in Russia alone and over 3 million soviet prisoners of the 3.8 million that were captured in 1941 died.

Six Japanese aircraft carriers flew across the Pacific Ocean to prepare to launch an attack on the naval base at Pearl Harbour. Torpedo bombers and fighters attacked the airfields and ships derstroying ships. One day after this attack, the United States declared war on Japan.

The Battle in the Coral Sea was between Austria and New Guinea. The Allies of the battle were defending port Moresby from being invaded bt sea from the Japanese, who wanted to occupy the port to cut off American from Austraila. In the end the Allies won the battle and the Japanese were forced to push back and recall their invasion fleet.

The Battle of Stalingrad was the turning point in Europe when the Soviets launched a massive counter attack and pushed towards Berlin, Germany. The Soviets lost a total of 1,100,000 soldiers.

The Nuremburg Trials consisted of 24 surviving Nazi leaders. Of those 24 Nazi's on trial, only 12 were sentenced to death. The other 12 were sent to prison in later trials.

Elie's father dies in the concentration camp after being very sick. He died of starvation, and Elie had to leave him behind.

The bomb of Nagasaki was dropped 3 days after Hiroshima. This bomb was smaller than the one that was dropped on Hiroshima, but it still managed to kill 200,000 people. After the bombing of Nagasaki, Japan surrendered to the Americans.

Wiesel lived in New York and one day he was walking with his friend when suddenly he was hit by a taxi cab. He was given surgery and had 47 fractures. Elie Wiesel stated how it was very ironic how he survived two concentration camps during the Holocaust but was almost killed while crossing the street.
