  • Texas Declares Independence

    on March 1st, 59 delegates held the Convention of 1836 at Washington-on-the-Brazos. They drafted the Texas Declaration of Independence and adopted it on the 2nd
  • The Alamo Falls

    Santa Anna leads an attack on the rebels at the Alamo. Under the command of William B. Travis and James Bowie, Texas rebels fought a fierce battle against the Mexican army. The men in the Alamo were all killed and the Mexicans suffered heavy casualties. New of the Alamo spread and the echoing cry of "Remember the Alamo!" rallied the Texans.
  • The Goliad Massacre

    James Fannin and nearly 400 Texans were executed by the Mexicans at the Goliad Massacre, under the order of Santa Anna. after defending the fort against the Mexican Army
  • The Battle of San Jacinto

    Sam Houston leads an attack on the Mexican army at San Jacinto. outnumbered and facing impossible odds, Houston ordered the attack on the Mexican army. With shouts of "Remember the Alamo!" and "Remember Goliad!", the ragtag militia descended upon the Mexican army. Only nine Texans were killed as opposed to the 630 Mexicans on the other side. Santa Ana was captured and Texas had won its independence
  • Sam Houston Elected the first president of The Republic of Texas

    the citizens of the new Republic of Texas quickly elected Sam Houston as their first president and Mirabeau B. Lamar as vice president.
  • Austin becomes the capital

    the capital was relocated to Austin. Many in Congress believed that Houston was too far from the original Texas settlements
  • Battle of Plum Creek

    The Battle of Plum Creek, near present-day Lockhart, ended the boldest and most penetrating Comanche challenge to the Texas Republic
  • Texas is annexed into the U.S.

    U. S. President James Polk followed through on a campaign platform promising to annex Texas and signed legislation making Texas the 28th state of the United States.
