  • Jesuits built missions, with self sufficient community among the Hurons.

    The jesuits came and built several missions, but had unintended consequences, as they converted the wendat people's, resulting in a split between the believers and non believers. This made them weaker, and they got defeated by the haudenosaunee. This resulted in less trading and a valuable ally gone.

    The french king helped grow the population, realizing the lack of women in the new colony. The king would pay women who were willing to come to the colony their dowries, and many poor women and orphans came to the colony. Most of them married the king’s soldiers and started large families.
